About this file

This is a technical specification document from the National Isotope Development Center at ORNL (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) detailing requirements for He-3 gas with ≥99.9% purity, dated October 24, 2024. The document outlines two main areas: material specifications and packaging specifications.

The material specifications require tritium content to be ≤5 x 10^6 µCi/mL and He-3 isotopic enrichment >99.9% at N38 purity grade, with strict impurity limits for O2 (≤10 ppmv), N2 (≤100 ppmv), and other compounds including CO, CO2, H2O, and CH4 (all ≤5 ppmv). The packaging requirements specify DOT-compliant B30 aluminum cylinders with a water volume of 28.9 L, CGA718 valve type, height of 1202 mm, and diameter of 203.2 mm. This specification supports a solicitation for up to 3,000 liters of He-3 for the Department of Energy.
