About this file
This specifications document outlines the USDA-ARS St. Paul, Minnesota location's requirements for a Real-Time Quantitative PCR (qPCR) machine to support research on functional genes in cropping systems. The technical specifications call for a high-throughput, network-connected qPCR system with specific features including a 96-sample capacity, 5-color plus FRET detection, compatibility with existing Bio-Rad supplies, and a compact benchtop footprint of 13in x 22in x 21in. The required equipment includes the base unit, cables, Wi-Fi adapter, 96-well PCR plates, plate sealing film, cDNA synthesis kit, and supermix reagents, and must run on a current Dell computer with Windows 11.
The delivery schedule requires the equipment to be delivered to the USDA-ARS Plant Science Research Unit at 1991 Upper Buford Circle, Room 411 Borlaug Hall, St. Paul, MN 55108 within 30-90 days after receipt of award. The research unit is focused on improving alfalfa for agronomic traits such as root architecture, winter survival, disease resistance, and carbon sequestration in soil. The qPCR machine will enable assessment of soil, rhizosphere, and root functional genes across various experiments, with key requirements including user-friendly software, built-in statistical analysis capabilities, safety features, and minimal cross-contamination potential.
