The Eastern Ecological Science Center Fish Health Building has a requirement for the services of a professional land surveyor, licensed / registered in the state of West Virginia, to complete legal boundary surveys. The work will consist of performing all surveys, measurements, computations, drawings, descriptions, monumentation, and markings required. USGS EESC Leetown will provide the surveyor with a deed, title search, location map and aerial photograph (if available) of the property to be surveyed. The map will include the area to be surveyed, points of access, and any other applicable descriptive information, if available. The surveyor must furnish plat maps (shape file), written descriptions of the area.
2.0 BACKGROUND
The USGS EESC Leetown Science Center, located at 11649 Leetown Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430. Research conducted at this facility includes study of infectious and noninfectious diseases of fishes and other aquatic organisms. The facility also conducts research on invasive fish species with the intent of better understanding the adaptations these fish are applying in these new, nonnative habitats and developing ways to stop their spread and potentially eradicate them. Scientists at this facility use a combination of tradition microbial and cell culture techniques and histological and molecular tools to obtain the answers to their research questions.
3.0 SCOPE
The scope of work includes but not limited to:
Boundary survey and monument marking of estimated 476 acres.
All land survey work must follow recognized professional practices and standards and meet the accuracy specifications and positional tolerances set forth in the regulations of the State where the survey will take place. The boundary description must be clear, accurate, complete, must meet USGS EESC Leetown's intent requirements, and be documented as required by these Land Survey Specifications. All notes, sketches, computations, and other data must be complete, legible, and organized in a manner that will allow reproduction of paper copies if required.
All work must be performed by, or under the direct supervision of, a person licensed or registered to practice land surveying in West Virginia. Other support personnel must have the training and experience to perform the work competently. Equipment for surveys must be of the quality and condition to provide the accuracy required.

All monuments must be thoroughly described and specifically identified as set or found, whenever shown on maps or referred to in documents prepared by the surveyor. Descriptions of monuments must be sufficiently detailed to readily facilitate future recovery by other surveyors and to enable positive identification.
All monuments must be a minimum of 3/8-inch diameter solid steel and a minimum of 24 inches long. Monument caps (orange in color), must be placed on each monument. Monuments must not be driven below the ground surface. If there is a reason that such a monument cannot be established, the reason for a deviation from the USGS EESC Leetown specifications must be noted on the face of the plat of survey.
All survey data obtained by the surveyor must be recorded and maintained in accordance with State standards of practice.
