Attachment 1- SCOPE OF WORK

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard setting, which promotes cancer prevention, research, education, and monitoring of comprehensive quality care. These programs are concerned with the full continuum of cancer from prevention to survivorship and end-of-life-care while addressing both survival and quality of life.

The multidisciplinary CoC:

• Establishes standards to ensure quality, multidisciplinary, and comprehensive cancer care delivery in health care settings

• Conducts surveys in health care settings to assess compliance with those standards

• Collects standardized data from CoC-accredited health care settings to measure cancer care quality

• Uses data to monitor treatment patterns and outcomes and enhance cancer control and clinical surveillance activities

• Develops effective educational interventions to improve cancer prevention, early detection, cancer care delivery, and outcomes in health care settings.

The CoC, a program of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS), recognizes cancer care programs for their commitment to providing comprehensive, high- quality, and multidisciplinary patient centered care.

William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) desires to participate in the ACoS cancer program and meet current CoC standards in order to maintain accreditation as an approved cancer program.

WBAMC is considered an Academic Comprehensive Cancer Center and provides the full spectrum of cancer care. As an accredited program WBAMC will have access to the National Cancer Database and data assessment for institution- comparison nationally. BAMC will also have access to the CoC Datalinks which is a central repository for maintaining CoC-accredited cancer program data and information.

The CoC is dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care. The cancer program surveys are a comprehensive evaluation of the entire scope, organization, and activity of a cancer program. A survey is performed every three years by a CoC surveyor who is trained to evaluate compliance with the CoC eligibility.
