(4) Periodically inspecting a collection and taking such actions as may be necessary to preserve it;

(5) Providing access and facilities to study a collection;

This contract applies to the following categories of preexisting and new museum property, archaeological collections, and associated documentation for museum property.

The collections of archaeological and historic artifacts and associated records, herein, are called the

Collection.

The Federal Government retains title to the Collection being cared for and maintained.

Collections will be accepted from BLM and individuals, organizations, institutions, companies, corporations, or universities holding a valid cultural resource use permit and a current curation agreement with the Museum. The Collections must be accompanied by adequate documentation and provenience information, consistent with preparation requirements laid out by the Museum in Curation

The collection database will be updated throughout the period of this contract and by the end date will contain all Collections deposited during this period.

The Museum will provide BLM cultural resource permittees with a curation agreement extending for the term of their permit in a timely manner. While functioning as a federal repository, permittees will be charged a processing fee of $50.00 due at the time the curation agreement is issued.

The cost for permanent storage of collections is $700.00 per cubic foot, using the MWC standard box and packaged to MWC standards. A half box is $350.00 per cubic foot, and a minimum charge of

$175.00 will be assessed for collections smaller than .25 cubic foot. The fee partially reimburses curation costs including cataloguing, research access and preservation.

Charges for oversize items (for example, whole vessels, ground stone) will be based on the actual amount of shelf space the specific items(s) consumes(s), at $700 per cubic foot.

The cost for curating project documentation is $500.00 per linear foot (for illustrations, one standard 12” x 15” x 10” record storage carton is approximately 1.5 LF; one standard 10 ¼” x 12 ¼” x 2 ¼” archival document box is approximately 0.5 LF). Oversized maps stored in flat files are also charged at the

$500.00 per linear foot rate. A minimum charge of $125.00 will be assessed for collections that are less than 0.5 LF.

No fees are to be assessed for Collections generated by BLM staff for in-house projects. Each field office will deposit these Collections annually.

Collections will be accessioned using the "Smithsonian trinomial".
