STATEMENT OF WORK

I. WORK REQUIREMENTS

A. Technical Requirements

1. Describe specific work requirements and work products:

• Work shall be conducted at vendor site.

• Provide two overarching products: (1) compiling/writing scientific publication products that will contribute three chapters to a USGS Scientific Investigations Report and (2) interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic data. The compiling/writing of the three report chapters will each be focused on three 3D seismic surveys (each with <1 mile2 footprint) acquired from the following three areas: Southwest Wellfield (SWWF), North District

Wastewater Treatment Plant (NDWWTP), and Central District Wastewater Treatment

Plant (CDWWTP), Miami-Dade County, Florida (Fig. 1). The writing will include providing text, tables, figures, and captions for three report chapters focused on results of 3D seismic findings at SWWF, NDWWTP, and CDWWTP. The seismic interpretations will be conducted on 2D and 3D seismic data collected onshore and offshore (lakes) in Polk County, Florida (Fig. 2), and minor interpretation for the three

3D surveys in Miami-Dade County.

Writing of scientific publications

• Writing of each of the three chapters will include the following: abstract, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, and reference sections supported by 21 figures, 2 tables, and captions. These components of the chapters will follow the structure, style, and content presented in the USGS Scientific Investigations Report by Cunningham and others (2018) located at https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20185117. The 2018 USGS report will be used by vendor as a publication product template.

• USGS will provide the vendor with interpreted OpendTect project files of the three

3D survey areas in Miami-Dade County. Five horizons have been interpreted and picked for each of the three 3D survey areas that will be used for map construction to be presented in the publication product.

County, Florida.

Seismic interpretations

Miami-Dade County

• For seismic data from Miami-Dade County, the vendor will load the three 3D

OpendTect seismic projects into OpendTect seismic interpretation software.

Cartigraphic reference system is State Plane XY (US Survey Feet – Zone 901 [Florida

East]). Also load ten geophysical well-log data suites (caliper, gamma ray, induction, borehole compensated sonic logs) acquired at SWWF, NDWWTP, and CDWWTP from asci files with locations in same State Plane XY reference system. Examples of southeastern Florida 3D land seismic data acquisition and general processing parameters, and seismic profiles can be found in the methods sections and figures of the publication USGS SIR 2018-5117 (https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/sir20185117).

This publication shows the anticipated depths, geologic ages, and seismic sequences to be interpreted within the seismic data. Samples of SEGY files acquired in nearby

Broward County canals for the USGS can be assessed at an online data release:

https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/56ec46cde4b0f59b85da14d8. The seismic data will be focused on depths to about 3,600 ft and deepest rock formations of late

Paleocene or early Eocene age.

• In the imported OpendTect Project, finalize existing 3D horizon maps on 5 horizons and prepare for display as figures following format in USGS SIR 2018-7117 report

• New interpretation of the Miami-Dade County seismic data by vendor will simply include use of fault and chimney attributes derived using the OpendTect plugins

Faults and Fractures, and Chimney Cube, respectively, and several similarity slices.

Polk County

• Load all 2D (total 55 mi.) and 3D seismic survey (one @ 1 mi.2) SEGY files acquired in Polk County into a complete Kingdom seismic software project, and load just the

3D seismic survey into an OpendTect seismic software project. Follow same methodology for establishing cartographic reference and loading of geophysical data as established above in Section I.A.1. for the three seismic surveys in the Miami-

Dade Project.

• Load well logs (ascii files of caliper, gamma ray, induction, borehole compensated sonic logs) from 10 wells into Kingdom project and logs from 3 wells into 3D

OpendTect Project. Construct 10 seismic synthetics from well data and import all into Kingdom Project and 3 into OpendTect Project.

• Using Kingdom software, pick and map up to 8 key horizons (includes late

Paleocene or early Eocene to Quaternary units) on the 2D seismic surveys from Polk

County. Using OpendTect software interpret and map up to 8 key horizons (includes late Paleocene or early Eocene to Quaternary units) on the 3D seismic survey from

Polk County. Import up to eight 3D horizons from OpendTect and import into the

Kingdom project and integrate into horizon mapping within the Kingdom Project.

Using OpendTect software use fault, and chimney attributes derived using the https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/sir20185117 https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/56ec46cde4b0f59b85da14d8 https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/sir20185117

OpendTect plugins Faults and Fractures, and Chimney Cube, respectively on the 3D surveys from Polk and Miami-Dade County. Using OpendTect software use similarity attributes on 8 horizontal slices for chimney detection on the 3D surveys from Polk and Miami-Dade County.

Both Polk and Miami-Dade Counties

• Vendor must use Kingdom and OpendTect seismic software to be compatible with the existing legacy Kingdom SMT and OpendTect seismic software projects in-progress at the USGS office in Davie, Florida.

• For each of the Miami-Dade and Polk County seismic interpretation tasks, every two months, produce PowerPoint summary updates of interpreted seismic lines, associated time and depth-converted structure maps, and attribute displays. Include selected depth converted seismic profiles in SEGY format for the seismic lines and horizon grid files for time and depth structure maps. Ship as electronic files on USB or external hard drives to the USGS in Davie, Florida and provide a Microsoft Teams tele-meeting with each of USGS Project lead to review the new products. If approved by USGS, electronic files may be submitted via USGS SFTP transfer protocol in lieu of USB or external drive.

2. Criteria for acceptance of product or service:

• One of two Technical Liaisons (one assigned to Miami-Dade County tasks and second assigned to Polk County tasks) will check over all deliverables and to assess quality of work. This task includes verifying placement of seismic horizons on seismic profiles along geologically reasonable seismic reflections (+/- 2 milliseconds) without deviation off the subject reflections (except in cases where placement of reconnaissance horizons is being conducted—here +/- 7 milliseconds) and verification of horizon structure maps (accuracy within 2 vertical feet where well-to-seismic correlations are located) by comparison of horizons in well data to seismic profiles, as well as consistency of interpretations included in written and graphical products (must conform to standard seismic interpretations guidelines [for example, Mitchum et al., 1977 in AAPG Memoir 26]). Any required corrections identified by these checks shall be made by the Contractor at no additional cost to the Government.

3. Characteristics for work product described in I.A.1.

identified by name and quantity:

• Provide a USGS project leader with PowerPoint summaries and Teams tele-meetings of guidance on methods and workflows used with Kingdom and OpendTect software and writing of text.

• Horizon grid files of time and depth converted structure maps.

• The attributes provided on seismic profiles and surfaces to be delivered as SEGY files that can be viewed in Kingdom or OpendTect software and accompanied by

PowerPoint summaries.

• Written summaries of seismic interpretation regarding the seismic data from Miami-

Dade and Polk counties as explained in Section I.A.1., Bullet 10 will be provided to the

USGS upon request during the writing of information products.

• Key graphic images of seismic interpretation work to include horizon interpretations on seismic profiles, contoured horizon maps, horizon time-to-depth corrected maps, and attribute imaging on seismic profiles (as directed by the USGS). These images will be determined by the need to illustrate the subject USGS reports. These images will be submitted to the USGS when production of information products is conducted by the USGS and submitted to the USGS in Adobe Illustrator format, for inclusion into published USGS SIR.
