About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) that outlines the minimum requirements for an acoustic mixer requested by the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). The key details are:
The acoustic mixer must operate on 100-120 VAC power, include a touch screen for control, allow for programmed mixing cycles, and restrict access via username and password. It must be capable of mixing payloads up to 1 kg, with accelerations up to 100g, and fit within a 36" x 36" x 36" volume. The mixer must include an enclosure to contain any powder release and accommodate mixing vessels up to 5.125" in size. The contractor shall provide installation, calibration, verification, training, and user certification. The complete system must be delivered within 3 months of contract award, and include a 1-year warranty.
This is a sole-source procurement under NAICS code 334513, with Resodyn Acoustic Mixers as the proposed vendor. The government intends to acquire this acoustic mixer without full and open competition, citing the need for efficient and effective mixing capabilities to support AFIT's additive manufacturing research.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
FOR AN
ACOUSTIC MIXER
March 2024
GENERAL
The Air Force Institute of Technology does not currently have an acoustic mixer. An acoustic mixer is a useful tool for quickly mixing powders of varying sizes for additive manufacturing and have been proven in numerous studies in additive manufacturing literature to coat spherical powders with nano-sized powders with efficiency.
This specification is for an acoustic mixer.
The mixer will include the following features:
1. The mixer will operate on 100-120 VAC power at 50/60 Hz.
2. The mixer will operate by the principle of acoustic, low frequency mixing.
3. The mixer will include a touch screen for machine control.
4. The mixer must include capability to run mixing cycles with a set acceleration and time or programs with multiple accelerations and times.
5. The mixer must include the ability to restrict access to a username and password.
6. The mixer must be able to mix at least 1 kg payloads at a time - combination of mixing container and powder.
7. The mixer must be capable of payload accelerations up to 100 times g or 100g (where g is the acceleration of gravity on earth) at 60 Hz.
8. The mixer must fit within a 36” H X 36” W X 36” D volume to fit within current laboratory spaces.
9. The mixer must contain the mixing vessel within an enclosure so that a failure of the mixing vessel will not result in powder being released into the laboratory.
10. The mixer must accommodate mixing vessels up to 5.125”, about the size of a pint paint can.
11. The mixer must incorporate a fixture to tighten mixing vessels of varying sizes up to the limit of 5.125”.
12. The mixer must include a user operations manual.
13. The mixer must allow data logging to keep track of mixing processes time and acceleration and date of operation.
14. The mixer manufacturer must have field service technicians or engineers within the United States who can respond to on-site technical issues and are able to gain access to a US military installation.
TESTING AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The contractor shall provide in-person installation, calibration and verification of the acoustic mixer and all associated costs will be included in the contractor’s proposal. The contractor shall provide in-person application review, user training, and user certification and all associated costs will be included in the contractor’s proposal.
DELIVERY
The contractor shall deliver a complete system no later than 3 months after contract award.
WARRANTY
Free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal and proper use in accordance with manual, for the period of time of one year after receipt.
