About this file

This document is a Statement of Need (SON) for the purchase of one (1) Brand Name or Equal NVision POLARIS polarizer for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The SON outlines the technical requirements for the polarizer, including that it must be cryogen-free, have a small footprint, be equipped with wheels for mobility, and be capable of producing magnetic resonance (MR) tracers with fast processing times. The delivery and installation requirements include providing the equipment within 6 months of contract award, performing installation within 14 business days of delivery, and providing 3 days of on-site training for up to 6 NCI staff. The Contractor shall provide a minimum 12-month warranty covering repair and replacement of parts. This SON is in support of a Federal Contract Opportunity (Solicitation Number 75N91024Q00167) for the purchase of the NVision POLARIS polarizer, with a NAICS code of 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing).

1.0 TITLE

Purchase of One (1) Brand Name or Equal NVision POLARIS

2.0 BACKGROUND

In collaboration with scientists in the Radiation Biology Branch (RBB), Urologic Oncology Branch (UOB), and Molecular Imaging Branch (MIB), the Clinical Cancer Metabolism Facility (CCM), Center for Cancer Research (CCR), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), facilitates the development of novel metabolic imaging techniques to characterize tumors by isotope-resolved metabolomics as well as non-invasive multinuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies.

CCM along with affiliated collaborators across CCR require the purchase of a new compact, mobile polarizer, with the capability to work at room temperature, fast sample processing, and low equipment maintenance cost. CCR aims to significantly enhance its metabolic imaging infrastructure which supports cancer research and cancer patient care at NIH/NCI. It is the mission of the CCM to make technological and scientific developments polarization technology available to all CCR researchers wishing to investigate tumor metabolism in their preclinical and clinical studies, with a special focus on studies directly related to patients being treated and studied at the NIH Clinical Center. CCR strives to be at the forefront of hyperpolarization research capabilities and seeks to improve in vivo metabolic investigation of tumor metabolism in preclinical models of human tumors.
