About this file
This document is a Request for Information (RFI) from the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Program Office for F/A-18 and EA-18G (PMA-265) seeking information on innovative, affordable concepts to extend the unrefueled range of naval tactical aircraft (TACAIR).
The RFI invites industry, academia, and government laboratories to submit concepts across multiple engineering disciplines that could provide extended range capability, such as methods to increase lift, reduce drag, increase fuel available, reduce fuel usage, increase engine performance, and adjustments to subsystem integration or advanced flight controls. Respondents are required to provide their submissions in a PowerPoint format following the slide formatting requirements detailed in Attachment 1. Responses must be unclassified and submitted electronically to the designated Contracts POC no later than 120 calendar days from the publication of the RFI. The Government intends to use the information provided to assist in the development of future capability, requirements, approach, and/or solutions for extended TACAIR range.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)
INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS TO INCREASE THE UNREFUELED RANGE OF NAVAL TACTICAL AIRCRAFT
Section Title Slide Limit
Content
1 Cover Slide 1 Short title of concept; name of the company, laboratory or academic institution submitting
2 Points of Contact 1 Names, emails and telephone numbers; mailing address; and CAGE codes
3 Executive Summary 2 Summarize the major points in sections 4-10. This section shall include a high-level operational view (OV-
1) graphic (Ref: DODAF Viewpoints and Models).
4 Design 2
Describe the overall design and how it would be integrated onto TACAIR. This section shall include a system interface description (SV-1) (Ref: DODAF Viewpoints and Models). Describe how/if this concept may impact other TACAIR attributes such as aircraft maneuverability and/or radar cross section.
5 Performance 2 Describe the estimated range increase provided by this concept and the methods used to estimate.
6 Reliability 2 Address any potential impacts of the concept on TACAIR airframe reliability and/or durability.
7 Suitability 2
Address any anticipated challenges with deploying and supporting this concept aboard TACAIR in a carrier-based environment, which includes challenges such as: limited storage space, potential exposure to a salt-water environment, catapult takeoff, and arrested landing.
8 Technology Maturation 2
Describe and justify the current TRL of the concept.
Discuss future performance verification plans to include Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, wind tunnel, and pedigree of methods used. Provide a notional plan to reach TRL 4 or greater by end of calendar year 2027.
9 Initial Cost Estimate 2 Provide a non-binding ROM cost estimate to reach TRL 4.
Additional Information
(Optional)
Additional information, as desired, to further explain the concept.
11 References 2 List of supporting references, sources, and literature to include previous work or research in this area.
