About this file

This document presents the Salient Characteristics for a commercial modular parachute storage system required to replace an existing legacy system.

The system shall consist of two independent, single-sided modular units nominally 10 feet wide each, with a combined width not exceeding 21 feet and maximum exterior depth of 24 inches to accommodate flush wall installation. Each unit must be a fully enclosed cabinet with a heavy-duty rolling security shutter (tambour door) covering the entire front span, equipped with integrated locks that are keyed alike to allow a single key to operate both units. The system must accommodate 52 parachutes total (26 per unit) hanging vertically from 52 individually adjustable cantilever arms (26 per unit). Each arm must have a minimum certified load capacity of 30 pounds to support fully packed military parachutes without bending or failing, with de-burred edges to prevent fabric tearing. Enclosure panels shall feature durable commercial laminate finish or manufacturer's standard heavy-duty steel alternative suitable for high-use environments, with all exposed metal surfaces finished in glossy gray powder coat or baked enamel paint. The new system must be covered by a standard commercial manufacturer's warranty. The vendor is responsible for dismantling and removing the existing legacy storage rack system in strict compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, leaving the workspace completely debris-free. The system must be structurally anchored to the concrete floor and/or wall by the vendor or professional installers to prevent tipping.

Salient Characteristics: Parachute Storage System

1. General System Configuration (COTS & Modular)

• System Type: Commercial modular parachute rack/cabinet system.

• Modular Layout: The system must consist of two (2) independent, single-sided modular units (nominally 10 feet wide each).

• Footprint & Placement: The units must be capable of being installed side-by-side or in two decentralized locations. The total combined width of both units must not exceed 21 feet.

• Depth Restriction: The maximum exterior depth of the system must not exceed 24 inches to ensure a flush, low-profile fit against the wall.

2. Enclosure & Security (Tamper-Proofing)

• Fully Enclosed Design: Each modular unit must be a fully enclosed cabinet system so that parachutes cannot be accessed or tampered with from the top, sides, or bottom when the door is closed.

• Security Doors: Each unit must be equipped with a heavy-duty rolling security shutter (tambour door) covering the entire front span.

• Locking Mechanism: The rolling shutters must feature integrated locks that are "keyed alike," allowing a single key to open and lock both units.

3. Parachute Arms & Load Capacity

• Storage Method (Vertical Hanging): The system must be designed to allow 52 parachutes (26 per unit) to hang vertically and independently from cantilever arms.

• Quantity & Adjustability: The system must include a total of 52 cantilever parachute arms (26 per unit). Arms must be vertically and horizontally adjustable.

• Weight Capacity: Each individual arm must have a minimum certified load capacity of 30 pounds to securely support fully packed military parachutes without bending or failing.

• Snag-Free/Safety Edges: Parachute arms featuring de-burred edges to prevent fabric tearing.

4. Finish & Aesthetics

• Enclosure Panels: Panels shall feature a durable commercial laminate finish (or manufacturer's standard heavy-duty steel alternative) suitable for high-use environments.

• Surface Finish: All exposed metal surfaces shall be finished with the manufacturer's standard, durable powder coat (or baked enamel paint). The finish color shall be a glossy gray.

5. Warranty: The new system must be covered by a standard commercial manufacturer's warranty.

6. Decommissioning and Installation

• De-installation and Disposal of Existing System: Prior to the installation of the new units, the vendor shall dismantle and completely remove the legacy storage rack system currently in place. The vendor is responsible for hauling away and disposing of all old components off-site in strict compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The workspace must be left completely free of debris before new installation begins.

• Anchoring: The system must be designed for flush-wall placement and must be structurally anchored/secured to the concrete floor and/or wall by the vendor (or professional installers) to strictly prevent tipping.
