PERFORM-X TRAINING SYSTEMS – BRAND-NAME
OR EQUAL
Background:
The Contracting Officer requested justification for several Perform-X products (Trak-X wall system and cord-loaded accessories) under FAR §11.104 requirements for “brand-name or equal” descriptions.
FAR 11.104 requires that a solicitation identify the salient physical, functional and performance characteristics that an “equal” item must meet.
Mission needs:
• The end user needs a fully adjustable anchoring track system that integrates variable-resistance cord attachments for explosive exercises in multiple planes and directions.
• The system must allow athletes to perform loaded and unloaded lifts, plyometrics and mobility or rehabilitation drills with progressive, measurable resistance and built-in safety features.
• Because the training occurs in a DoD facility, the equipment must be durable, safe, portable and capable of being anchored to walls, platforms or existing racks.
TRAK-X 6 ft Wall-Mounted Track & Install Kit
• Adjustable six-foot track – The Trak-X system is a six-foot aluminum track that can be mounted vertically on a wall, pillar or squat rack. Clip-X anchors slide along the track, allowing cord attachments to be positioned at any height. This adjustability enables horizontal rows, diagonal chops, vertical pulls and other multi-plane movements.
• Safe, strong anchoring – The install kit includes mounting hardware for wood or concrete. Cords used with the Trak-X feature limiter straps and fabric covers that prevent over-extension and protect users in the event of a failure.
• Multi-system compatibility – A single Trak-X track can anchor upper-body, lower-body, hip and plyometric cord systems. The wall package description notes that adding Trak-X converts a wall into a complete upper and lower-body training space.
• Patented and proprietary – The sole-source letter lists the TRAK-X system as a patented product and states that Perform-X is the only company authorized to manufacture it.
Secure mounting and Clip-X attachment – Beyond these summary features, it is important to highlight why the mounting track is so secure. The Trak-X uses an extruded aluminum track with a channel that accepts Clip-X connectors. Each Clip-X slides into the channel and locks in place, allowing cord anchors to be positioned anywhere along the six-foot length. Once engaged, the Clip-X resists both vertical and horizontal forces, so cords remain firmly attached during high-intensity movements. Unlike generic band setups that rely on fixed hooks or eye-bolts, this adjustable yet secure anchoring mechanism supports multi-directional training without risk of detachment.
The installation kit anchors the track at every hole with heavy-duty screws or concrete anchors. By distributing load evenly across the wall or rack, it prevents the track from shifting or loosening under dynamic forces. This rigid mounting, combined with the locking Clip-X, ensures the system can handle explosive lifts, jumps and sprints without failure.
Perform-X cords complement the secure track design. Each cord includes a limiter strap that loops through the Clip-X and is reinforced with stitching. The strap carries the load and prevents the elastic tube from over-stretching, while a protective sleeve contains the recoil if the internal cord fails.
Together, the locking Clip-X, rigidly mounted track and limiter-strap design create a highly secure anchoring system that allows athletes to train aggressively without fear of bands detaching or snapping back. These securing features are unique to Perform-X’s patented Trak-X and Clip-X system, and any equivalent product would need to offer an adjustable sliding anchor, robust mounting hardware and integrated limiter straps to deliver the same level of security and versatility.
Salient Characteristics – An “equal” product should provide an adjustable track allowing attachments at various heights; hardware for safe wall installation; compatibility with multiple cord systems; built-in safety features such as limiter straps; and the secure Clip-X style attachment described above.
ULT-X Upper-Body System
• Versatile movement patterns – The ULT-X system allows pushing, pulling, pressing, rotational movements, lifting and chopping to train the entire upper body.
• Seven measured resistance levels – Cords are offered in seven resistance options (super-light through ultimate) with published average and working loads. A smart chart is included to quantify the additional load added to each exercise.
• Flexible anchoring – The system can be clipped into the Trak-X or wrapped around a rack, fence post or tree. It can be used indoors or outdoors without additional hardware.
• Safety and durability – Each cord has an over-extension prevention strap and fabric cover to prevent snapping. Perform-X states that its cords last three times longer than typical bands.
• Portability – The ULT-X is lightweight and portable, allowing training anywhere.
Salient Characteristics – An equal system must allow all major upper-body movement patterns;
provide multiple resistance levels with quantified loads; offer both track and standalone anchoring;
include over-extension prevention and protective covers; and be portable and durable.
HIP-X System (Cuff & Cord)
• Complete hip training – The HIP-X allows hip flexion, extension, abduction, adduction and hamstring movements, enabling training in all planes.
• Seven resistance options with measurable loads – Cords are available in seven resistance levels with specific measurable loads; a smart chart quantifies resistance based on training distance.
• Flexible anchoring – Can be attached to a Trak-X or wrapped around a rack, fence or pole, indoors or outdoors.
• Comfortable and durable – The system uses soft cuffs and covered cords with limiter straps for safety. It is portable and designed to last longer than typical bands.
• Performance benefits – Manufacturer materials note that the HIP-X improves drive-phase production of the non-contact limb, enhances push-off during ground contact, stabilizes the pelvis and lower limbs, increases hip strength and improves mobility.
Salient Characteristics – An equal product should provide training for all major hip movements;
multiple quantified resistance options; both track and free anchoring; comfortable cuffs with over-extension protection; and durability suitable for high-volume training.
SPEED-X Lower-Body System (5 ft cords + Belt-X + Handle)
• Linear and lateral applications – The Speed-X system provides cord-loaded resistance for speed, agility and plyometric drills in both linear and lateral directions.
• Versatile anchoring options – It can be clipped to a Trak-X on a wall or platform, attached to floor-mounted tracks or used manually with a partner via the Speed-X handle.
• Seven resistance levels with load chart – Seven resistance options are available, with a smart chart that quantifies load based on training distance.
• Adjustable, comfortable belt – The Belt-X is adjustable and padded to ensure comfort during dynamic movements.
• Safety and durability – Cords are covered and include limiter straps to prevent over-extension; they are lightweight, portable and rated to last three times longer than typical resistance bands.
• Performance emphasis – Designed to increase speed and agility, improve lower-body strength and explosiveness and produce substantial adaptations in muscle size and power.
Salient Characteristics – An equal system must support linear and lateral drills with multiple resistance levels; allow anchoring to a track or partner; include an adjustable belt; feature over-extension protection and durable construction; and demonstrate benefits for speed, agility and explosive strength.
SQUAT-X Cords (with Clip and Loop)
• Four-loop cord system – Each Squat-X cord has four loops that provide increasing resistance levels.
The design allows easy transitions between levels and enables accurate measurement of the additional load.
• Rack or Trak-X compatibility – The bottom loop attaches directly to band pegs on a squat rack. If a rack lacks pegs, a Clip-X connector allows anchoring to the Trak-X. This flexibility means the cords can be used on virtually any rack or platform.
• Built-in safety and smart chart – Cords include a limiter strap and covered design to prevent snap injuries. A smart chart quantifies the additional resistance added at each loop.
• Durable and portable – The cords are lightweight and designed to last much longer than standard bands.
• Superior variable-resistance profile – The system provides greater resistance at the top of the squat (where lifters are stronger) and less resistance at the bottom. Premium materials ensure smooth, uniform tension and include a limiter tether and water-resistant cover. This profile improves rate of force development, explosive strength and power while reducing joint stress.
Salient Characteristics – An equal product should offer multiple resistance levels in a single cord;
compatibility with rack pegs and an adjustable track; built-in over-extension protection and protective covering; a load chart for accurate measurement; durable construction; and a variable-resistance profile that matches the human strength curve.
BENCH-X Cords (with Clip and Loop)
• Two-loop cord system – Bench-X cords have a two-loop design that provides measurable progressive resistance for bench presses. Athletes can quickly change loops to increase or decrease resistance.
• Compatibility with rack pegs and Trak-X – The bottom loop hooks onto rack pegs, and when pegs are absent, a Clip-X connector allows attachment to the Trak-X. This makes the cords usable on most bench stations.
• Safety and load measurement – The cords include limiter straps and fabric covers to prevent over-extension. A smart chart is provided to quantify additional resistance.
• Durable and portable – Constructed to last three times longer than typical bands and easy to transport.
• Performance benefits – Using Bench-X cords enables athletes to become stronger in less time, move weight faster, improve power and increase stability and coordination. The variable-resistance profile increases load as the bar travels upward (where lifters are stronger) and reduces load near the chest.
Salient Characteristics – An equal product must offer at least two distinct resistance levels per cord;
compatibility with both rack pegs and an adjustable track; safety features such as limiter straps and protective coverings; a means of quantifying resistance; and a variable-resistance profile that enhances power and coordination.
Conclusion The TRAK-X wall-mounted track and its associated cord systems (ULT-X, HIP-X, SPEED-X, SQUAT-X and BENCH-X) collectively provide an integrated training solution that meets the mission requirements for a fully adjustable anchoring system with variable resistance for explosive, multi-plane movements.
Key attributes include:
• Adjustability and versatility – The Trak-X track allows cords to be attached at various heights on walls, racks or platforms. Each cord system also offers alternate anchoring options (standalone objects or a partner).
• Measurable, progressive resistance – All cords come in multiple resistance levels with published load values and smart charts to quantify resistance.
• Built-in safety and durability – Cords incorporate over-extension prevention straps and protective covers and are designed to last three times longer than typical bands.
• Functional performance benefits – The variable-resistance profiles are designed to enhance force production throughout the range of motion, resulting in increased strength, power and mobility while reducing joint stress.
Any “equal” item must therefore match these salient characteristics: an adjustable sliding track for multi-height anchoring; cord systems with multiple quantified resistance levels; integrated safety features; durability; compatibility across multiple movement patterns and anchoring methods; and demonstrated performance benefits for explosive, multi-directional training.
