About this file

This document contains the salient characteristics for a Digital Fire Truck Pump Operations Simulator that must integrate with an existing fire rescue driving simulator at the Peterson SFB Fire Department. The simulator must include a full-size replica of a fire apparatus top-mount pump panel, modular cabinet design, authentic components, LCD displays, touch screens, and software to model hydrodynamics, foam control, and relay pumping functionality. It must provide 8 discharges, real water and foam tank level indicators, and mimic the top-mount pump panel of the fire engines used by the Peterson SFB Fire Department. The simulator must also include an instructor operation station to configure water sources, pump configurations, vehicle parameters, and various engine/pump conditions. The simulator is required under the federal contract opportunity for a "Pump Operation Simulator" solicited by the Department of the Air Force Space Command.

Salient Characteristics – Digital Fire Truck Pump Operations Simulator The Digital Pump Operations Simulator (Pump Ops Sim) must seamlessly integrate with the Sim-Tech Genesis Series Fire Rescue Driving Simulator installed at Peterson SFB Fire Department (PSFB FD).

Peterson SFB Fire Department must be provided with the training material and user manuals and one day of on-site training from the manufacturer must be given to PSFB FD personnel.

The Pump Ops Sim shall include the following components:

Full-size replica of a fire apparatus top-mount pump panel Modular unit built into a free-standing cabinet Combination of authentic components, LCD displays, touch screens Multiple pump, nozzle, and hose configuration Software modeled Hydrodynamics and “internal” working Class A foam control functionality Electronic/digital control functionality Relay Pumping Functionality Industry-standard student assessment forms Touchscreen Instructor Operator Station (IOS) with minimum of 34” Monitor with table or arm-mount Digital Video Response Scene Generation Hose Deployment Schematic.

Pump Ops Sim must run on standard 115V/15A power Pump Ops Sim must provide capabilities for 8 discharges Pump Ops Sim must include real water and foam tank level indicators Pump Ops Sim must model or mimic the top-mount pump panel of PSFB FD Fire Engines The pump engagement actuator with transmission selector, speedometer, tachometer, air brake system pressure gauge, air brake system low-pressure warning indicator, and parking brake shall be mounted on the side of the pump panel simulator cabinet opposite the instructor display.

Pump Ops Sim shall include an instructor operation station mounted in a location where the simulator can be monitored and controlled by the instructor. This instructor station shall allow the configuration of:

Water sources: Internal booster water tank, hydrant, relay supply pumper, and portable water tank Pump configuration: Pump capacity (1000-2000 GPM), Single Stage, and Two-Stage Vehicle configuration: Water tank size Pumping evolutions: Different hose sizes and lengths, different hose nozzles, different water supplies Various engine conditions: Low oil pressure, low air pressure, low battery voltage, high engine coolant temperature, check engine, stop engine, low fuel, and high pump temperature.

Foam System: Foam tank size, foam type, foam tank level, foam discharges Pump Ops Sim must include a 75” 4K Smart Board display for the pump panel simulator

Pump Ops Sim must realistically simulate the operation of pump controls, valves, indicators, and accessories that are required by NFPA 1901 and are typically found on real fire apparatus. Actual controls, valves, indicators, and accessories shall be used where available. Final pump panel controls and pump panel layout will be determined when the pump panel layout is presented.

All components on Pump Ops Sim must be operatable by students with audio and/or physical feedback and must simulate the following conditions: Engine noise, cavitation, priming, grinding of gears, engine warning indicators, and pump overheat alarms.

All intakes and discharges on the Pump Ops Sim will have physical, operational gauges, not screens or simulated gauges. It must be equipped with the following intakes, discharges, and gauges:

Master intake and master discharge gauges One large-diameter intake (Task Force Tip ball intake valve with stortz connection & bleeder) One 2 1/2” intake One deluge discharge Four 2 ½” discharges (2 manual and 2 electronic) One large diameter discharge (simulating 4” discharge) Two 1 ½” preconnect discharges Bleeder valve on each intake and discharge
