About this file

This document presents detailed technical requirements for a Nanocrystalline Diamond Reactor System for the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The system must provide uniform plasma coverage over a 4-inch deposition area with diamond thickness uniformity within +/- 10%, featuring a water-cooled copper main stage with an integrated multizone resistively heated molybdenum sample stage capable of reaching 850 degrees Celsius. Key specifications include a 3.0 kW microwave power supply, multiple viewports, dual wavelength pyrometer, IR and optical cameras, 6 mass flow controllers, and comprehensive software controls for temperature, pressure, and gas flow with automated and manual operational modes.

The procurement includes rigorous Factory Acceptance Testing requirements, with the vendor expected to demonstrate system capabilities in the customer's presence, including safety checks, vacuum leak testing, and plasma ignition. The vendor must provide two days of on-site installation support, conduct a final acceptance test at NRL by growing a diamond film on a 4-inch silicon substrate for at least 8 hours, and offer a one-year warranty on non-consumable parts. Additional requirements mandate that the vendor operate a facility with at least 5 running CVD diamond reactors and have a demonstrated service team to provide process and hardware testing and support.
