About this file
This Performance Work Statement (PWS) details herbicide treatment for invasive vegetation control at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Round Oak, Georgia. The project requires treating 176 total acres across three compartments: 82 acres in Compartment 2, 15 acres in Compartment 17, and 79 acres in Compartment 18. Contractors will apply aminopyralid (Milestone® herbicide) using hand crews with backpack sprayers at a rate of 7 ounces per acre, with an appropriate non-ionic surfactant. The refuge will supply the herbicide, and the period of performance is from contract award through September 15, 2026, with actual application allowed between June 1st and September 15th, 2026.
Special use conditions are extensive, requiring a refuge special use permit and mandating that all work be coordinated with the refuge manager, conducted only Monday through Friday during business hours, and adhering to strict refuge regulations. Restrictions include no collection of plants/animals/artifacts, no alcohol, specific firearms regulations, and vehicle traffic limited to designated gravel roads. The contractor must maintain a written work schedule and be responsible for daily clean-up of the work area. The accompanying maps detail the specific spray areas within each compartment, showing precise locations and boundaries of the treatment zones.
