About this file
This document is a Requirements/Specification Draft for an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) required by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for use in the development and testing of a quantum bit ("qubit") reference system. The key specifications include: 6 standalone independent output channels with 400 MHz bandwidth, ability to generate samples at up to 1 GS/sec, 16-bit resolution, 500 mV peak-to-peak voltage, 10 digital output channels, and 2 standalone input channels with 1 GS/sec acquisition and 12-bit resolution. The AWG must have real-time capabilities for active feedback control with a maximum latency of 400 ns. NIST is conducting market research through this Sources Sought announcement to identify potential vendors, both large and small businesses, that can meet these requirements. Interested companies are requested to submit capability statements including company profile, product details, lead time, and small business status. NIST will use this information to determine if a small business set-aside acquisition is feasible.

Requirements / Specification Document
TITLE: Low‐Cost Arbitrary Waveform Generator
Requesting Laboratory / Division / Group:
Communications Technology Laboratory Radio Frequency Technology Division Superconductive Electronics Group (672.06)
General Statement of Need:
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), along with the Superconductive Electronics Group (672.06) is developing a prototype quantum bit (“qubit”) as a potential standard test instrument. The testing of this standard qubit requires shaped microwave signals generated by an Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) that can generate signals in signals in the 400 MHz frequency range signals has at least 12 bits of resolution and it has the capacity of digitizing the down converted readout signals for active feedback control..
We wish to purchase a new arbitrary waveform generator to facilitate the development and testing of our qubit reference system.
Item Specifications and Quantities:
Item 1: Arbitrary Microwave Generator
Quantity: 1
Specifications:
1 6 Standalone independent output channels (read from different memory sections) with 400 MHz bandwidth
2 Ability to generate samples at a not‐return‐to‐zero rate up to or greater than 1 GSamples/sec
3 Analog bandwidth of 400 MHz per channel.
4 Ability to choose between at least 65536 voltage levels (16‐bit) for each sample
5 Peak‐to‐peak maximum voltage of at least 500 mV into 50Ω for each output
6 Ability to take and deliver a clock and fast trigger signal.
7 10 Digital Output Channels
8 Minimum of 2 Standalone input channels with minimum 1Gsample/s acquisition
8.1 Input channels bandwidth of at least 400 MHz
8.2 Minimum of 12‐bit resolution
9 Real‐Time Capabilities for active feedback control of the output channels with a maximum feedback latency of 400 ns for both digital and analog.
10 Self‐contained and powered using standard 120Vac / 60 Hz wall power.

11 Rack Mountable
12 Established commercial product with multiple units operating successfully in the field. Experimental, prototype, or custom items are not acceptable.
13 Be a new item (not refurbished or reconditioned) covered by the original manufacturer’s full warranty with service provided by that manufacturer’s U.S.‐based service organization. The use of “gray market” components not authorized for sale in the U.S. by the proposer is not acceptable.
