About this file

This document contains minimum specifications for an electro-optic pulse picker system being solicited by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Research Laboratory. The system must meet specific requirements including having a driver with less than 10 ns rise and fall time producing less than 200 V, a countdown box for selecting single laser pulses at a time that can pass every Nth pulse and has a range from 0.5 to 10^-6 of the clock frequency, an electro-optic modulator functional from 400-800 nm capable of picking single pulses at 493 nm, and outputting pulses with less than 100 ps of jitter. The countdown box is also required to accept TTL signals for single shot mode and gating and have a tunable delay greater than half the interpulse time with 100 ps resolution.

ATTACHMENT 1 – MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

The requested electro-optic pulse picker system for selecting single 493 nm pulses from an existing mode locked 493 nm femtosecond pulsed laser must meet the following minimum requirements:

* Driver with less than 10 ns rise and fall time, less than 200 V drive

* Countdown box for synchronous pulse selection. Must be able to allow a single laser pulse to pass with TTL signal without transmitting another laser pulse 12 ns later.

* Countdown box must include a “divide by N” control system to let through every N-th laser pulse

* Electro-optic modulator for picking single laser pulses at 493 nm but functional between 400 nm - 800 nm for use with future pulsed systems. EO material should be a proven material like KD*P

* Countdown min range: 0.5* clock frequency. Countdown max range: 10^-6 * clock frequency

* Output jitter: less than 100 ps

* Mode locker input: between - 6 dBm and +15 dBm

* External input: 2-10 ns pulse width, +/-2 volts max input,

* Gate input: TTL compatibility, must accept one clock width signal

* Single shot mode: TTL compatibility, must accept 10 - 100 ns pulse width

* Delay: tunable by greater than half inter pulse time (6 ns). Resolution less than 100 ps resolution

* Output of countdown box: should drive amplifier for EO control of laser. Typical outputs of countdown box for EO driver: 2.5 V into 50 ohm load, 1 microsecond width. Trise and Tfall typically less than 3 ns.

Pulse width approximately 8 ns, should not exceed 10 ns.
