1.0 TITLE

Evaluating the Circulating Biomarkers in Cancer

2.0 BACKGROUND

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) routinely conducts epidemiologic studies in relation to inflammation and cancer which require aliquoting and testing. Circulating proteins can provide valuable information about the biological processes involved in the development of cancer; may be useful for distinguishing between people who have cancer, and people who do not have cancer; and may be useful for predicting prognosis.

The Olink Proteomics proximity extension assay technology is uses only 1µl of sample per panel each panel and assesses 92 markers. The technology to addressed each biomarker by a match pair of antibodies, coupled to unique, and partially complementary oligonucleotides, and measured by quantitative real-time PCR has been utilized by the DCEG for previous studies, and must be utilized for follow-up studies to ensure comparability.
