About this file

This document is a Specification Control Drawing for a Special Purpose Electrical Cable manufactured to Military Standard MIL-C-27500. The drawing specifies a multi-conductor insulated cable assembly with detailed component requirements and construction specifications designed for U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.

The cable consists of three primary conductor types: Type A (single twisted pair with silver-plated copper shield), Type B (two twisted pairs with tin-plated copper and color-coded insulation), and Type C (single twisted pair with tin-plated copper and orange insulation). All conductors feature extruded PTFE insulation with thermoplastic rubber fillers and clear Mylar isolators. The overall cable jacket is made of extruded polyurethane in natural color with 1.00 to 9.7 nominal outer diameter and 1 millimeter minimum wall thickness. Operating temperature range is -55°C to +80°C. The cable assembly must meet MIL-C-27500 requirements, withstand exposure to fuels and lubricants, contain no nutrient-supporting materials, and the polyurethane jacket must push back 3 inches for inspection. Type A conductors specifically require wire-to-wire distributed capacitance of 30pF maximum per foot, characteristic impedance of 77±7 ohms nominal at 1MHz sinusoidal, and attenuation not exceeding 1.54dB per 100 feet at 1MHz. The drawing was issued on 12/2/1962 and references suggested sources of supply including Phelps Electronics Corporation in North Carolina and Cable USA in Florida.
