About this file
This document contains specifications for the procurement of five (5) Animal Change Stations designed to provide dual protection for both employees and laboratory animals during cage transfer operations. The units must protect employees from occupational exposure to animal allergens while protecting animals from the macro-environment, with ELISA-proven allergen containment systems serving as the primary safety function.
The specifications require units with dual access front faces on both sides to accommodate comfortable seating for two operators, one-piece solid stainless-steel work surfaces for decontamination, and frameless, shatter-proof sash. Units must be height-adjustable through button or touch screen controls, accommodate entrance heights of 51-78 inches with a work surface area of 43x18x22 inches, and feature a push bar for mobility. Additional required features include V-shaped and center grills to separate clean and dirty zones, large tray handles for easy cleaning, folding addition shelves for supplies, quality wheels with reduced noise and vibration, and a convenience outlet. The units must operate on 110 volts with 12 amps maximum full load (nominal running current of 2-4 amps with ECM blower motors), produce noise output under 53-55 dBA, and include UV lighting with button or touch screen control. Filtration requirements include ULPA filter exhaust and activated charcoal filters with vertical laminar downflow and inflow systems creating an air curtain to protect operators. Optional features include an alarm system for out-of-range conditions and a feed hopper. Biological safety cabinets are excluded due to annual certification requirements. Best value consideration will be given to units compatible with existing equipment to minimize training, maintenance, and downtime.
