About this file

This Special Packaging Instruction (DD Form 2169) details the precise packaging requirements for a 5.56mm M249 Machine Gun (National Stock Number 1005-01-127-7510). The document specifies detailed preservation, cleaning, and packaging procedures, including disassembly of the weapon, cleaning with specific solvents (MIL-PRF-372 and MIL-PRF-680), and coating with medium preservative oil (MIL-PRF-3150). Packaging instructions include individually bagging various weapon components like the bolt assembly, receiver, barrels, and accessories using heat-sealed barrier bags, and using specific fiberboard containers and blocking materials.

The packaging process follows strict military standards (MIL-STD-2073-1 and MIL-STD-129), with requirements for wood packaging materials complying with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15. The unit pack is designed to be shipped in quantities of twenty containers, packed flatwise with four per layer in a wood-cleated panelboard box. Marking instructions require a packing list with serial numbers, and the exterior shipping container must omit the weapon's nomenclature. The document includes detailed technical drawings for various blocking and support components, ensuring precise positioning and protection of the machine gun during shipping and storage.
