About this file
This document outlines a solicitation for a 16-channel marmoset coil for use with a Bruker 7T MRI system. The National Institute of Mental Health requires one Takashima 16CH "DR. REICH" Marmoset Coil to be compatible with its existing Bruker 7T MRI AV3 system. Responses are due by February 29, 2024 and should be submitted electronically to the contract specialist at the National Institute on Drug Abuse. The period of performance is 30 days after award with a one-year warranty. Pricing should be firm fixed price and include delivery, shipping, and any applicable discounts. The awardee will be selected using lowest price technically acceptable procedures.

Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The NIH Neurophysiology Imaging Facility (NIF), supported by National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Store (NINDS), and National Eye Institute (NEI), is equipped with state-of-the-art preclinical imaging instruments, including 3T and 7T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Positron Emission Tomography (PET)/Computed Tomography (CT), CT, and ultrasound scanners. These facilities are pivotal for conducting advanced neuroimaging studies, particularly using the 7T MRI to investigate brain structures and functions in anesthetized marmosets, focusing on neurodegeneration progression and brain development.
The NIF has successfully integrated a 16-channel (16ch) receive array from Takashima, which has significantly enhanced our imaging capabilities, especially in high-resolution studies of marmoset brains. The additional receive array requested within, which is compatible with the previous Takashima one, has proven invaluable in our ongoing research endeavors.
2. Background Information and Objective: Given the critical nature of the NIF’s longitudinal studies, we propose the procurement of an additional 16ch receive array.
This purchase is justified by the following considerations:
a. Continuity of Research: The additional receive array will serve as a vital backup to ensure uninterrupted research progress. In the event of maintenance or repair requirements of our current array, this backup will prevent any loss of valuable time points in our longitudinal experiments.
b. Enhanced Research Capacity: Having two receive arrays will boost the NIF’s research throughput. This setup allows for one array to be in active use while the other is being prepared, thereby optimizing our operational efficiency.
c. Technical Compatibility: The new receive array is required to be fully compatible with existing Takashima coils, which have already been acquired and tested. This compatibility is vital for ensuring seamless operational continuity and leveraging the proven functionality of our current setup.
d. Cost Efficiency: Our requirement is focused solely on the acquisition of the coil, without the need for an additional preamp box. This approach is notably cost-effective, potentially saving nearly 50% of the expenses compared to purchasing a complete set (coil and preamp box) from the same vendor. Such a saving is significant and aligns with our commitment to fiscal responsibility while maintaining high research standards.
3. Generic Name of Product: 16CH Marmoset Coil for Bruker 7T MRI AV3. No preamplifier box.
