About this file
This document is an attachment detailing the salient characteristics for a Plastic Sphere Dispenser required under a federal solicitation. The key details are:
The Plastic Sphere Dispenser must be capable of suspending from a helicopter's external cargo hook without requiring aircraft electrical modifications. It must have a dry weight under 330 pounds and fit in a short bed truck. The device must have a handheld controller to turn it on/off, control dispensing speed, provide a sphere dispensed counter, and allow remote viewing via a built-in low-resolution camera. It requires vertical fins for aligned helicopter flight up to 90 knots, solvent flow to remove contamination, and onboard tanks for emergency water, glycol, and cleaning solvent. The sphere hopper capacity must be 4,000-5,000 spheres with an adjustable dispensing rate of 50-150 spheres per minute.
The federal contract opportunity associated with this requirement is a solicitation from the U.S. Forest Service for the acquisition of one Plastic Sphere Dispenser to be used in wildfire prevention and control.
