About this file
This document provides lot number instructions for delivery/shipment documentation, specifically following MIL-STD-1168 format. The instructions detail how to create unique lot number identifiers that must be included on receiving documentation.
The lot number format consists of several components: manufacturer's identification symbol (e.g., CRA for Crane), two-digit year code, single alpha code for month (A-M, excluding I), lot inter-fix number, and sequence number. For example, CRA22D001-001 indicates Crane manufacturing, 2022 production year, April production month (D), first inter-fix (001), and first sequence (001). The document specifies that a new inter-fix number should be used when significant changes occur in processes or raw material manufacturer. Monthly codes are clearly defined (January=A through December=M), with a specific note that the letter "I" is not used to avoid confusion with the number "1".
