Interactive Authoring and Display System (IADS) Version 4.1 is required to view the latest version of DMWR 55-1615-322. IADS can be procured through the Aviation and Missle Command (AMCOM) Logistics Center (ALC) Publications office.

DMWR 55-1615-322 does not contain detailed IUID requirements for this component. The PM has not tasked AED to update this DMWR to incorporate IUID detailed procedures. Recommend contacting CH-47 PM IUID Office, Jennifer Bishop, (256) 876- 8526, for any updates and/or waiver/deviation of IUID Contracting DFAR clauses on the IUID marking of the Shaft Adapter Assembly.

See DMWR 55-1615-322 paragraphs 3-13, 3-14 and 3-15 for Inspection Methods and Overhaul Inspection Procedures (OIP) Inspection Methods and specific OIPs.

Nondestructive testing (NDT) procedures for magnetic particle and fluorescent penetrant shall be in accordance with ASTM E1444 and ASTM E1417 as per DMWR 55-1615-322 paragraph 3-14.c and d. All technique sheets shall be reviewed and approved by a certified Level III NDT Inspector. All personnel performing inspection tasks shall be certified in accordance with

AIA/NAS 410.

Magnetic particle inspection is a critical characteristic. Magnetic particle inspection shall be done as per ASTM E1444 for cracks.

None allowed.

Nital etch prior to shot peen and the bake after nital etch (if immersion etched) are critical characteristics.

Component plating and subsequent bake is a critical characteristic and is required per the overhaul process. Contractor shall acquire proper plating facilities and/or equipment to perform the outlined procedures.

Shot peening coverage is a critical characteristic. An AMCOM/CCDEVCOM approved source shall be utilized when shot peening is a critical process. Approved sources shall be obtained from AMCOM.

The overhaul facility is responsible for acquisition, maintenance, calibration, and disposition of all Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). TMDE shall be maintained and controlled in accordance with MIL-I-45607, ISO 10012, NCSL Z540.3, or AS9100/9110. Calibration documents for all TMDE shall be traceable to the National Institute of Standards of Technology (NIST).

Balance of the assembly within limits and recording by serial number and part number is a critical characteristic.

The applied torque during assembly is a critical characteristic as follows. Torque nut (P/N BACN10RJ6E) onto bolt (P/N 145DS303-3) to 440 inch-pounds (wet). Turn nut only. Hold bolt head firmly to prevent bolt from turning. Lubricate all threads with oil (DOD-PRF-85734, MIL-PRF-7808 or MIL-PRF-23699).

Additional CSI Requirements

CSI Contains CSI Replacement Parts? YEngineering Testing Required?

The Contractor shall flow down the Critical Characteristics and QE-STD-1 to all Suppliers of CSIs.

The solicitation/RFP shall require that all proposals/responses include a special tooling and test equipment section that addresses the contractor's plan to meet all government special tooling and test equipment requirements with either:

1. Physical possession of the required tools, 2. Confirmed requisitions for the required tools, 3. Confirmed arrangements for subcontracting the processes requiring the special tools, or 4. Specific plans describing their technical approach to develop equivalent tools.

Commerciality Determination

Commercial Item? N NBest Commercial Practice Acceptable?

1615-01-319-5092NSN CH-47System

Several CH-47 aircraft have experienced Engine Transmission Drive Shaft Adapter (145D3500-16, -17) fastener loss of preload issues. Both the# 1 and #2 Engine Drive Shaft Adapters have been affected by loss of torque and loose nuts at various locations and PNs 145DS303-3 and -5 Bolts have seized on different occasions in both inboard and outboard locations. The study of loss of torque on the Cross Shaft nuts and associated Cross Shaft bolts galling is ongoing, but it is thought that the coupler flex plates were not finished in accordance with the drawing requirements after the holes were drilled. It is thought that loss of preload on the bolts is most likely caused by the presence of burrs on the coupling plate holes.

Special Airworthiness Considerations

FCDD-AMA-M-Sustainment has verified the CSI/NST status through the ARISE CIM on 4 March 2020 and the NHA is CSI and NST. The subcomponents are CSI and NST. Engineering testing, Fatigue, Endurance, and Interchange are not required for overhaul. Updated NHA table in ARISE database. No other changes. DEM

Other Requirements / Comments

Special Post-Contract Award Requirements

The Prime or OEM is required to submit a Frozen Plan 30 days after contract award to Engineering Directorate (ED) and Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED). The Frozen Plan will be reviewed and require approval by ED and AED prior to government acceptance of contract deliverable assets.

Other Requirements / Comments (Part II)

The applicable DMWR contains detailed procedures regarding IUID requirements for this component. These procedures can be found in MEO(s) D2106, D2107 and D2108.

Other Requirements / Comments (Part III)

FCDD-AMA-M-Sustainment has re-verified the CSI/NST status through the ARISE CIM on 26 March 2020 and the NHA is CSI and NST. The subcomponents are CSI and NST. Engineering testing, Fatigue, Endurance, and Interchange are not required for overhaul. No changes made. DEM
