About this file

This is a salient characteristics specification document for a gooseneck horse trailer procurement by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service for the Bitterroot National Forest. The trailer must be heavy-duty and durable with a gooseneck hitch (2-5/16 ball), two dual-wheel axles rated at 7,000 lbs each, and a gross trailer weight rating between 14,000 and 20,000 lbs. Key dimensional requirements include a minimum 24-foot overall length, 6'10" deck width (maximum 7'6"), minimum 23-foot deck length (maximum 26 feet), and 7-foot minimum inside height (maximum 8 feet). The trailer must feature spring or torsion suspension with ez-lube capability, emergency break-away brakes with electric or electric-over-hydraulic functionality, and all LED lighting compliant with DOT regulations including front, side, rear marker, and tail/turn/stop lighting.

Required features include a two-speed heavy-duty landing gear, safety chains sized for gross trailer weight rating, single drop-leg jack with removable handle, high beam load lights, 12"x24" windows in the nose, solid rear door with slam latch, steel frame at 12-inch centers, solid dressing room wall (4x6), rubber floor mats in the horse compartment, full-size spare tire on bracket, saddle rack/bridle hooks with brush bin, nose carpet package, 4-8 outside trailer ties, and multiple two-way roof vents. The trailer must include a durable manufacturer identification plate attached to the frame with the manufacturer's name, location, model, manufacture date, serial number, actual gross trailer weight rating, and payload information. The requestor, Sabrina Wilfong (Sabrina.wilfong@usda.gov), notes that Travalong, Big Bend, and Delta trailers manufacture units meeting these specifications, and GSA Advantage may have compliant options available.

All lighting will be LED and consist of front, side, and rear marker lighting in addition to tail/turn/stop lighting and meet DOT specifications.

Travalong, Big Bend and Delta trailers all build trailers that meet the above specifications. GSA-Advantage has some trailers that meet the specs and I suspect the vendors listed there could additionally order the trailer as specified.
