About this file
This document is a Qualified Product List (QPL) published by the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) on May 21, 2019, specifying approved spray-on and brush-on surface coatings for concrete finish applications on bridge and highway construction projects. The QPL identifies qualified products across three primary categories: non-cementitious solventborne spray-on coatings, waterborne spray-on coatings, and cementitious brush-on coatings. All listed products must meet SCDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction. The document provides comprehensive product information including manufacturer trade names, vendor contact information, and application requirements specific to each product formulation. No specific project quantities, response dates, due dates, site visits, or bidder conferences are referenced in this QPL document.
The document establishes concrete curing requirements tied to product application, with cure times ranging from immediate application to 28-day minimum cure periods depending on the specific coating product selected, as indicated by five supplementary notes. Products listed include offerings from established manufacturers such as BASF Corporation, Sherwin-Williams, VEXCOM Chemicals, The Euclid Chemical Company, ProSpec America, ChemMasters, United Coatings, Dayton Superior Chemical Corporation, MAPEI, and Clemons Concrete Coatings. The SCDOT contact person for this qualified product list is Aly A. Hussein, PhD, PE, Structural Materials Engineer, located in Columbia, South Carolina. This QPL serves as a pre-qualification reference document for contractors bidding on concrete bridge and highway projects within South Carolina, including the Concrete Bridge Old Calhoun Falls Road project.
