Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge Courtesy Dock Statement of Work
Overview In May of 2019, Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge lost a courtesy dock adjacent to the Stoney Point boat ramp due to the Arkansas River flood event. The refuge is requesting the construction and installation of a new 12’x20’ courtesy dock at the same location.
Specifications The requested boat dock should be 12’x20’ in dimension with a minimum 6’x30’ walkway and stiff-arm support. The style of the dock is to be a floating stiff arm construction where walkway and stiff-arm support the dock. The dock will be installed on the Arkansas River and will need to be able to move up and down as water levels fluctuate. The dock and components will also need to be able to withstand lateral pressure of the river current. All frame and structural components are to be metal. All metal components are to be galvanized. Floatation for the dock will need to be rugged polyethylene, or similar material, pods filled with expanded polystyrene, or similar buoyant material. The dock will need to have bumpering around the exterior of the deck for watercraft contact. The dock is to have handrails around the sides with an open area on each side for users to be able to board and exit watercraft. The dock is to be anchored using at least 3 - 8”x8”x1/2” H-beams with 4”x4”x3/8” top rail. H-beams should be set in concrete at least 5’ below ground level. Walkway and stiff-arm are to be connected to deck and anchoring system by hinges no less than ¾” thick and grade-5 bolts. Cross-bracing from anchor system to the dock is to be a minimum of ½” aircraft cable set at 45 degrees. The walkway is to have a handrail. All handrail specifications are to follow OSHA guidelines. All components of the dock and walkway are to be ADA accessible. The deck of the dock is to be made of concrete tiles, and deck of the walkway is to be made of composite lumber. A debris diverter is to be installed on the upstream side.
