Statement of Need for: 190 SERIES EBUS SCOPES AND 190 SERIES HD STANDARD BRONCHOSCOPE Introduction The Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, Medical Service, Respiratory department has determined the need to purchase two (2) 190 series EBUS Bronchoscopes and one (1) 190 series HD standard Bronchoscope.
History/Background/Purpose:
The Wilkes-Barre VAMC has a new requirement brand name only for three (3) Olympus bronchoscopes. Two of the scopes we are requesting will be upgrades of the current bronchoscopes and the third will be an additional one to the fleet of scopes. All three scopes will be compatible with the ultrasonic system and fiberoptic cart that is currently in use. We are requesting only Olympus scopes to eliminate cost of replacing existing bronchoscope carts and computer screens already owned by our facility and compatible with the upgrades.
The 2 new EBUS scopes we are requesting have new technology providing greater video resolution which will result in better diagnostic interpretation for areas in the mediastinum with enlarged lymph nodes. With this new technology the pulmonologist along with the pathologist will have increased ability to obtain lymph node samples and diagnosis malignancies at an earlier stage. The additional scope we are requesting is the particular scope that gets used more often and to have a backup would be beneficial in case of the scope being sent out for repair or preventive maintenance.
Detailed Description: The Wilkes-Barre VAMC requires the following brand name equipment upgrade to continue its Respiratory medical treatment plans/services for Veterans to ensure top quality medical services/treatment are available. Brand name only is being requested due to facility replacement will be supported by current carts and PC screens already in use, implementing a cost-effective option.
