Project MIFC Vertical Platform Lift Replacement
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
The intent of this contract is for the removal of the two vertical platform lifts in the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center (MIFC) facility and the replacement with an enclosed single, multi‐stop unit. The contractor will be responsible for the demolition, design, installation, and any required modifications to the building to accept the new lift.
The new platform lift shall provide an ADA compliant route from the main floor of the facility to both the mezzanine (training) level and the 2nd floor (dispatch) level with a single unit. This may require use of a 90 degree exit at one stop, and additional platform(s). The proposed product is a Genesis Model GVL‐EN‐168 by Garaventa Lift or equal. The owner shall have the opportunity to review and comment on all design documents.
Contractor shall be responsible for all modifications to the current building to support the new lift and provide multiple accessible stops including all electrical connections. Modifications to the building shall be completed in accordance with all federal and forest service regulations, the 2021 International Building Code and NFPA 70 NEC 2020 edition.
Contractor shall be responsible for purchasing and obtaining the required elevator permit and coordinating all inspections with the State of Minnesota. The COR shall be notified of any structural changes to the building and given a minimum 14 calendar days for evaluation and approval prior to modifications being made.
The result of this contract shall be a turnkey operational ADA compliant vertical platform lift providing access to all levels of the facility.
2.0 Background
The Minnesota Interagency Fire Center building is located at 402 SE 11th Street, Grand Rapids, MN 55744. The facility currently has two vertical lift platforms. One platform operates from the main floor level to the mezzanine level. The other lift provides access from the mezzanine floor level to the second‐floor level. Reliable operation of the platform lifts is essential to the use of the building as an accessible facility for performing daily work and as a training facility.
Frequent maintenance issues, coordinating general maintenance for two lifts, and difficulty finding replacement parts are the reasons to replace the lift system.
