Forest: Payette District: Council-01 Date: 5-28-2025 Observer: H. Boll
Allotment: Indian Mountain C&H Site: Rangeland Livestock Watering Facilities Specifications
Legal Description: ¼, ¼, Sec. , T , R UTM: Zone 11 N: E N
Description:
Insert bentonite core into the inner face of the dam.
Dig down in the thalweg and replace original material with compacted bentonite.
Clean and bentonite the pond.
Water usually escapes from the original thalweg of the drainage under the pond.
The thalweg should be cleaned out and taken down to hard pack.
Bentonite could then be packed in its place.
Sediment removed from the storage area of the pond should be pushed out over the dam and used to bolster/raise the height of the dam.
If the spillway shows signs of head cutting or incision, rock fill should be placed in the spillway to dissipate energy during high flow events.
Rocks could be collected from the surrounding area.
Here is a situation were the dam and spillway could be raised in order to increase holding capacity.
