About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Ninemile Ranger Station Fertilizer Contract. The contractor is required to supply and apply pelletized fertilizer to 237 acres of hayfield divided among ten fenced field locations at the Ninemile Ranger Station in the Lolo National Forest, located at 20325 Remount Road, Huson, MT 59846. The specific field locations and acreages range from 6 acres (Station Field #2) to 52 acres (Lower Airport). The fertilizer must comply with a 70-20-20-15 blend ratio (Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium-Sulfur), resulting in application rates of 70 lbs. Nitrogen, 20 lbs. Phosphorus, 20 lbs. Potassium, and 15 lbs. Sulfur per acre, achieved by applying 250 lbs. of complete pelletized fertilizer per acre.

The contractor must deliver and apply the fertilizer between April 1st and May 1st, 2026 (weather permitting), during operating hours of 0700 to 1630, and must coordinate with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for delivery and application oversight. The COR will inspect the fertilizer and application rate, and if specifications are not met, the vendor has one week to correct deficiencies. The contractor will access the hayfields through unlocked gates, and no federal holidays fall within the specified delivery period. The SOW indicates this is an ongoing contract that has been used for many years with anticipated continuation in future years with minimal acreage adjustments.

Project NRPT WB Fertilizer Contract

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

Supply pelletized fertilizer and apply pelletized fertilizer to 237 acres of hayfield divided into 10 fenced field locations at the Ninemile Ranger Station, Lolo National Forest.

2.0 Background

Fields are hayed to provide feed for 240 head of Forest Service livestock during the winter months. Pelletized fertilizer is applied to hay fields to increase yield in hay as well as to increase forage for grazing. The supply and application of pelletized fertilizer has been contracted for many years. We anticipate continuing to contract this in future years with minimal adjustments in acreage.

Contractor Requirements

3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

1) The fertilizer shall be applied to the hayfields of the Ninemile Ranger Station in compliance with legal requirements.

2) The Ninemile Ranger Station is located at 20325 Remount Road, Huson, MT 59846. The hayfields are contiguous or located within three miles of the ranger station. (See attached map.) The hayfields and acreages include:

Field Locations Acres Airstrip 10 Upper Airport 25 Lower Airport 52 Lower Lagoon 15 Upper Lagoon 33 Station Field #1 40 Station Field #2 6 Mule Hill East 17 Tack Shop Pasture 9 Donkey Alley 30

TOTAL 237

3) The pelletized fertilizer blend should be in the following ratio:

Nitrogen – Phosphorus – Potassium – Sulfur: 70-20-20-15.

Fertilizer Definitions:

1st # = Nitrogen 2nd # = Phosphorus 3rd # = Potassium 4th # = Sulfur

That ratio indicates that the individual elements contained in the pelletized fertilizer must be applied at the following rates:

• 70 lbs. of Nitrogen must be applied per acre

• 20 lbs. of Phosphorus must be applied per acre

• 20 lbs. of Potassium must be applied per acre

• 15 lbs. of Sulfur must be applied per acre

In order to achieve this rate of application of the individual elements, the complete pelletized fertilizer must be applied at a rate of 250lbs per acre.

4) The delivery date shall between April 1st and May 1st, 2026 (weather permitting) between the times of 0700 and 1630.

5) The vendor shall coordinate with the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for delivery and application of the pelletized fertilizer.

6) The COR will inspect the fertilizer and application rate. If the application rate doesn’t meet specifications, the vendor will have one week to correct the problem.

4.0 Government Furnished

The contractor will access the hay fields through unlocked gates. There are no federal holidays during the time period of the delivery dates that would limit this contract.
