About this file

This document is a technical specifications sheet for a small Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine proposed for a prison vocational training program. The machine is designed to expand woodworking shop capabilities to include aluminum signs, brass hardware, and plastic industrial components, with skills transferable to industrial mills and lathes upon prisoner release.

The CNC machine specifications include X-axis travel of 24.75 inches, Y-axis of 55.75 inches, and Z-axis of 6.70 inches, with a 2 hp electrospindle operating between 10,000 and 24,000 RPM. The system requires water cooling with an included chiller and features an integrated vacuum table measuring 26.5 by 65 inches. Power requirements include single-phase 115 Vac for the CNC router and 220-240 Vac for the vacuum pump. The machine weighs approximately 900 pounds with a footprint of 72 by 39 inches and overall height of 76.5 inches. Construction includes a welded steel stand, cast iron base, and aluminum gantry with precision linear guideways and ballscrew axis motion. The system offers 0.00025-inch resolution with ±0.002-inch ball screw positional accuracy and a maximum feed rate of 200 IPM. Included components comprise PathPilot software with Linux CNC interface, 24R CNC router capability, automatic tool changer, electronic tool setter, 80GB program memory, on-site installation and training, dust collection system, and a comprehensive tool kit including ER20 and ISO20 collets, cutting tools, calibration instruments, and accessory hardware.

Salient Characteristics for Small Computer Numerical Control

(CNC) Machinery

The proposed CNC machine will support various programming interfaces and accommodate diverse materials, expanding the shop's capabilities beyond traditional woodworking to include projects such as aluminum signs, brass hardware, or plastic industrial components. Such versatility not only broadens the scope of prisoner training but also significantly enhances the production possibilities for the command, allowing for a wider array of internal manufacturing solutions.

Crucially, the machine's requirement for Path-Pilot, an interface based on the industrial-standard

Linux CNC, ensures that the skills acquired by prisoners are directly transferable to high-end industrial mills and lathes upon release, fostering genuine career readiness. By investing in advanced CNC training, the program directly contributes to successful reintegration, reduces recidivism, and provides a valuable asset to the incarcerated population and the broader community.
