About this file
This document is an attachment specifying the salient characteristics and minimum requirements for a 628th Civil Engineer Squadron compact mulching head.
The 628 CES compact mulching head is a specialized heavy-duty cutting attachment designed for mini excavators and track hoes, weighing 695 lbs with dimensions of 24.75 inches cutting width, 33 inches overall width, 30 inches depth, and 25 inches height. The equipment features nine teeth and operates with hydraulic flow up to 40 gpm at pressures up to 5000 psi, requiring a tractor power range of 60–110 HP with a maximum case drain return pressure of 29 psi. The head utilizes proprietary PLANAR teeth technology with a controlled bite rib, patented from 2003. Key advantages include its lightweight construction relative to capability, compact cutting width suitable for precise forestry and land clearing work, and robust hydraulic performance enabling strong cutting capability on smaller machines. The mulching head is marketed as one of the few heavy-duty cutter-heads available that weighs under 700 pounds while maintaining high hydraulic flow capacity.

Attachment 2: Salient Characteristics
628 CES Compact Mulching Head
SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
Below are the minimum requirements that the 628th Civil Engineer Squadron has for the compact mulching head.
Dimensions
• Cutting Width: 24.75 in. (63 cm)
• Overall Width: 33 in. (84 cm)
• Depth: 30 in. (76 cm)
• Height: 25 in. (64 cm)
• Weight: 695 lbs. (315 kg)
Key Specifications
• Number of Teeth: 9 teeth
• Hydraulic Flow: Up to 40 gpm (151 lpm)
• Operating Pressure: Up to 5000 psi (345 bar)
• Tractor HP Requirement: 60–110 HP (45–82 kW)
• Case Drain Return Pressure: Maximum (continuous) 29 psi (2 bar)
Standout Features & Marketing Claims
• One of the only heavy-duty cutter-heads on the market that weighs less than 700 pounds while still handling high hydraulic flows up to 40 gpm.
• Specifically designed for mini excavators / track hoes.
• Uses PLANAR teeth with a controlled bite rib (patented technology from 2003, with Gyro- Trac being first to market with certain mulching/ED cutting tech).
Summary of Advantages
• Lightweight for its capability: At just 695 lbs, it’s unusually light for a heavy-duty mulcher head that can take full 40 gpm flow and high pressure.
• Compact size: Narrow cutting width (24.75”) makes it suitable for tight or precise work in forestry, land clearing, or right-of-way maintenance.
• Robust hydraulics: Supports very high pressure (5000 psi) and solid flow, allowing strong cutting performance even on smaller machines (60–110 HP range)..
