Existing conditions in the Blue Mountain Ranger District: Unpaved roads have historically been maintained at maintenance levels 2 and 3. Generally every third year. Compaction with a vibratory roller is required. There may be logging operations on the northern end of BMRC. Annual rainfall is 10.5 inches and summer months.

Ground moisture is variable and is susceptible to season, elevation and aspect.

The following establishes the required tasks and the minimum acceptable levels of service.

3.2 Roadway Surface Maintenance Level 4 and 5, Standard 811 (1) Provide Road Surface Maintenance for an estimated 130.8 miles of single lane roads in the base period as depicted in chart 3.2.1. An estimated 164.42 Miles of single lane roads in the option periods as depicted in charts 3.2.2 and

3.2.3. (See PWS ANNEX A, BMRD-ECRD Map).

Note: Water and Vibratory Roll: Roads should be worked with a suitable moisture content for blading and rolling. If the contractor elects to do the work in naturally damper conditions, then the road will naturally have suitable moisture and not need additional watering. If the contractor does the work in dry conditions, then additional watering will be required. All roads on the contract are to be compacted with a roller. Though not all roads will necessarily need to be rolled with a vibratory roller. However, Contractors are advised that a vibratory roller will often be required to meet specifications.
