STATEMENT OF NEED
1. INTRODUCTION:
Emergency Care Textbook + Workbook + APP, 14th Edition, authored by Daniel Limmer &
Michael F. O’Keefe. These books are required for the Army’s Combat Medic Specialist
Training Program (CMSTP). Each student in the course will require a textbook and workbook in
FY23.
2. BACKGROUND: When Soldiers are doing their field medic training at JBSA-Fort Sam
Houston, they are exposed to a realistic field environment and are taught emergency care and transportation of the wounded. The students are mandated by the program’s curriculum to train in and pass the EMT National Standards Certification. The purchase of these books offers complete coverage of every competency statement with clarity and precision in a concise format which ensures students comprehension and encourages critical thinking. New cognitive and didactic material is presented, along with new skills and features, to create a robust and innovative EMT training solution. Today, the Emergency Care Textbook Workbook, 14th
Edition, Limmer and O’Keefe is the gold standard in training programs by offering exceptional content and instructional resources which meet the diverse needs of today’s educators and students. Application to Real-World EMS through evolving patient case studies in each chapter, the 14th Edition gives students real-world context to apply the knowledge gained in the chapter, clarifying how the information is used to care for patients in the field, and pushing students to engage in critical thinking and discussion. The Emergency Care Review Plus App, 14th Edition will provide the student with additional NREMT review material along with educational videos of EMTs in a field environment. This App also allows for the student to pursue additional study time outside of the classroom.
