About this file

This is an amendment to a request for bids issued by the University of Wisconsin-Madison for ID Card Supplies (2026-UWMSN-01253-RFB). The amendment provides clarification on key equipment and transition plans related to the solicitation. The University currently operates an Entrust Sigma DS3 printer with no plans to replace this hardware during the contract term. Regarding proximity cards, the University anticipates issuing current 1536 proximity cards through the summer, with a transition to MIFARE DESFire EV3 2K cards occurring in the fall. The University will program the DESFire cards in-house rather than procuring them pre-programmed. Interested vendors should submit responses online through ShopUW+ at https://bids.sciquest.com/apps/Router/PublicEvent?CustomerOrg=UWisconsin, with inquiries directed to Dana Casey at dana.casey@wisc.edu.

The University is transitioning from proximity card technology to NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to address security concerns, as proximity technology is outdated and vulnerable to cloning. The shift to encrypted NFC credentials will provide improved security for the institution's access control system. The amendment indicates the University is open to vendor proposals that accommodate this technological transition while maintaining compatibility with existing Entrust Sigma DS3 printer infrastructure.
