About this file
This is a DD Form 2169 Special Packaging Instruction document for a QSB6.7 M CM2250 Marine Diesel Engine (National Stock Number 2815-01-655-3428). The document provides detailed preservation and packaging requirements for long-term storage and shipment of this engine.
The preservation process requires replacing the fuel and oil filters with slave filters (Cummins P/N 3959612 and 3937743 respectively), then flushing the fuel system with one gallon of MIL-PRF-21260E Type PE-10 preservative. The engine crankcase must be filled with four gallons of the same preservative, and the turbocharger exhaust port and aftercooler inlet must be fogged with preservative using an air compressor. The engine is then cranked while fogging 35-45 milliliters of preservative into the intake port, with strict limitations on crank duration (maximum 10 seconds) to prevent starter damage. All engine openings must be sealed with caps and plugs. The packaged engine unit weighs 1,913 pounds in a 71.8 × 44.3 × 49.8 inch container. Preservation and packing shall comply with MIL-STD-2073-1 and MIL-STD-1186. The unit container is marked as reusable and includes warning tags stating that the oil system, fuel system, and cylinders are preserved, requiring removal of all caps, plugs, and tape before operation and addition of proper operational lubricant to the crankcase.
