About this file

This is a DD Form 2169, Special Packaging Instruction (SPI), dated June 1997, providing detailed packaging and preservation requirements for a Linear Reacting Cylinder (Part No. 100DL0039, CAGE 0LVS7, NSN 3040-01-615-9744).

The form specifies preservation and packaging procedures following MIL-STD-2073-1, Method 20. The cylinder must be filled with operational oil, all interior openings sealed with NAS-847 caps/plugs, and wrapped in MIL-PRF-121 Type II Grade A paper (10 X 32 inches). Cushioning material conforming to ASTM-D4727 Type CF Class WR Grade W5c must be applied in specified quantities: two pieces of 3 X 70 inches, one piece of 9 X 11 inches, and eight pieces of 4 X 4 inches. Level A packing requires wood-cleated panelboard or nailed wood boxes per ASTM-D 6251 or ASTM-D 6880 (Class 2); Level B packing allows fiberboard boxes per ASTM-D 5118 or triplewall corrugated fiberboard per ASTM-D 5168 (Class 2). Containers must be closed per ASTM-D1974 Method 2B3. Marking must comply with MIL-STD-129. When total shipment weight to the same destination exceeds 125 pounds, exterior packs without skids shall be palletized per MIL-STD-147. Page 2 includes detailed visual diagrams demonstrating proper wrapping techniques and final packing configuration for the cylinder assembly.
