About this file

This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) form (DD Form 2169) for a VTA-903 600HP diesel engine with container (NSN 2815-01-578-0468). The document details specific preservation and packaging requirements for the engine, which weighs approximately 2,000 lbs and comes with a 1,772 lb reusable container (P/N 12573801).

The instruction outlines detailed preservation procedures for the fuel system, crankcase, and cooling system, including the use of specific preservative oils and cleaning methods. The packed unit requires special handling with preservation Method 55, desiccant application (160 units of Type I MIL-D-3464), and monitoring until internal relative humidity stabilizes below 30%. The packed unit dimensions are 79.3 x 58.8 x 68.8 inches with a total weight of 3,772 lbs. Special markings requirements include CARC labeling, reusable container warnings, engine serial number, and rebuild specifications when applicable. This technical document is associated with a Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime solicitation (SPRDL1-24-R-0205) for diesel engines.
