EWP-Stream Bank Stabilization –Kowcheck & Adkins Sites, Lincoln County
WV
Solicitation Number: AG-SPEC-S-16-0006
1. Q: Where will the fill dirt come from to reshape banks?
A: Sediment in the stream channel within the work limits may be used, but additional fill material may have to be obtained from offsite. Any offsite fill will have to be approved for use by a NRCS representative.
2. Q: How will the gas line have to be handled?
A: Work around the gas line will have to be coordinated with Columbia gas. Their contact number is 1-800-344-4077.
3. Q: Does the bridge have to be removed at the riprap site?
A: The bridge has to be removed. The contractor must check with landowner to see if they want to salvage any of the parts. Removal of the bridge shall be subsidiary to the rock riprap.
4. Q: What is the 4” rusty line?
A: The land owner stated that the line is the old gas line and it is no longer in use. This will have to be confirmed with the appropriate utility company, prior to being disposed of by the contractor.
5. Q: What is the gradation required for the rock riprap?
A: The required gradation is 8 to 22 inches. See the items of work in specification 61 Rock Riprap for more details.
6. Q: Where is the access for the rock riprap site?
A: The access is off of the main road within the work limits of the site.
7. Q: Where is the access for the gabion basket site?
A: The access is off of route 3 within the property lines of the site. Another access can be obtained by the contractor as long as all requirements of the agreement between the contractor and the landowners are met.
8. Q: Is there a preference to which site should be completed first?
A: The gabion site must be completed first.
9. Q: Will there be anyone working on the bridge at the gabion site?
A: No, the bridge contractor is going to wait on the gabions to be completed before they finish the bridge.
10. Q: Does the pay item for gabions include rock?
A: Yes. The gabion bid item includes everything needed to install them.
11. Q: What type of backfill is needed for the gabions?
A: #57 gravel is required. This will be subsidiary to the gabion baskets.
12. Q: Will any rock be required for the gabion wall foundation?
A: Some rock may be required to be placed for the gabion foundation. The need will be determined by the site conditions at that time. Any riprap needed will be paid for at the unit price set in the contract. If gabion stone is needed, a price will be negotiated at that time with the successful contractor. Quotes should not include any allowance for the potential use of gabion stone in the foundation.
13. Q: Does the rock have to be limestone?
A: No, as long as the rock comes from a quarry with current WV DOH approval or it needs to be shown that it meets Material Specification 523, Rock for Riprap, Type I.
14. Q: Will the contractor have any additional liability because a bridge will be setting on the baskets?
A: There will not be any liability due to the bridge setting on the baskets.
