Best Management Practices for the Grider Trail Bridge Project
4/16/2015
The Following BMP(s) shall be followed by the contractor at all times during the course of the contract:
1. Install sediment barriers such as wattles or silt fences between bare soils and streams.
2. Place effective soil cover such as mulch or slash on disturbed soils to provide for 70% ground cover.
3. Waste rock and soil may not be placed in riparian reserves, on slopes greater than 60 percent, or in areas subject to converging runoff.
4. Locate all fueling and servicing at least 200 feet from streams.
5. Provide copies of the Waiver to contractors and grazing permittees, and USFS volunteers or any other third parties and notify them of their responsibilities to comply with the Waiver.
6. Stabilize the project area when the National weather Service predicts a 30 percent or greater chance of precipitation, such as localized thunderstorm or approaching frontal system.
7. Operations will be implemented during the normal operating season (NOS) from September 15 to October 15, and in dry periods outside the NOS with earth scientist recommendation and Line Officer approval. Activities will be restricted during periods of wet weather during the NOS.
8. The KNF Wet Weather Operation Standards and Guidelines (WWOS – Klamath National Forest, 2002) will be used to guide operations during periods of wet weather. The COR will examine field conditions to determine when the soil and/or road have dried out enough to enable operations to resume without risk of watershed impacts. The project earth scientist may be called upon to make recommendations to the COR who will provide direction to the Contractor as to when operations may resume to insure that BMPs will be met and adverse impacts avoided.
Contractor(s) not adhering to BMP’s listed below shall be out of compliance with the contract unless determined otherwise by the Contracting Officer.
