9. National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)
All materials, workmanship, and designs shall meet specified requirements of the standards referenced in this section and other local or state codes, related to this type of work, whichever is more stringent.
1.8 – Special Construction Requirements
Upon completion of the project, all demolished improvements and other construction materials shall become the property of the Contractor and be removed from
Government land and/or disposed of in accordance with State and County standards.
Construction Access and Protection: The Contractor shall be responsible for securing the project area from the public. This includes providing the necessary security for protection of the Contractor's materials, equipment, tools and work until final acceptance by the Government.
The roadways to and within some of the project sites are narrow and windy, with abrupt curves and widths that vary. As such, mobilizing large equipment to the construction sites will likely require additional efforts to navigate these roads. Smaller dump trucks, concrete trucks, and standard width vehicles have accessed the site with no problems.
If campgrounds are open during construction, it is the Contractor’s responsibility to take appropriate care (such as the use of fencing) to protect the public from possibly injury from site activities.
Equipment and material storage: The Contractor shall obtain permission from the
Contracting Officer for equipment and material storage, and for other areas needed for construction. The safety and security of the Contractor’s equipment and materials is not guaranteed by the Government.
All site features to remain shall be protected from damage during the project.
No live trees are to be cut without permission from the COR. Tree limbs may be trimmed as necessary.
Sanitation/Garbage: No garbage service is available for Contractor use. The Contractor shall keep the construction site free of loose garbage at all times.
Campground or nearby restroom facilities will be made available for Contractor use.
The project will be implemented with the following Best Management Practices:
1. During servicing or refueling of equipment, vehicles, and machinery, there is a potential for pollutants to enter a watercourse. This threat will be minimized by locating service and refueling areas well away from Sabino Creek in an upland setting. The contractor will be required to have a Spill Prevention, Control and
Countermeasures Plan in place.
2. Loose, unconsolidated sidecast material will not be allowed to enter streamside management zones. The contractor will use wattles and or silt screens to prevent movement of disturbed soil into the stream. Wattles will be certified "weed
Free".
3. Sidecasting, the piling of excavated dirt on the edge of a ditch, or elsewhere in a wetland or other water of the U.S. will not be an acceptable construction alternative in areas where it will adversely affect water quality. Prior to commencing construction or maintenance activities, waste areas will be located where excess material can be deposited and stabilized.
1.9 – Contract Closeout
Remove temporary facilities and provide final cleaning and touch!up. Restore portions of buildings, site improvements, landscaping, and other items damaged by construction operations to the satisfaction of the Government at no additional expense to the
Government.

Continue excavating for the utility line, to a width not greater than is shown on the appropriate trench detail. Any shifting or change from the alignment and grade as staked or as shown on any included drawings must receive prior approval by the COR in writing.
1. Rocky Trench Bottom: Where ledge rock, hard pan, boulders, or sharp!edged materials are encountered, overexcavate a minimum depth of 6 inches below the bottom of the utility exterior wall to permit adequate bedding preparation.
The installed utility shall have at least 6 inches of clearance from any rock protrusion.
2. Unstable Trench Bottom: Secure approval of depth of over!excavation and stabilization method. For wet trench construction, use approved method of dewatering through diversion, damming and pumping, well points, or underdrain systems. Dispose of removed fluidized materials as approved. Use select material to build a suitable foundation to within 6 inches of finished utility grade, prior to bedding with the specified material. Compact layers to 95 percent of maximum density in not greater than 6!inch layers. Do not proceed with utility installation until wet trench and unstable conditions are under control.
B. Trim roots flush with trench wall.
C. During excavation, material satisfactory for backfilling shall be stockpiled in an orderly manner at a distance from the banks of the trench equal to ½ the depth of the excavation, but in no instance closer than 2 feet. Excavated material not required or not satisfactory for backfill shall be disposed of off!site by the
Contractor, or as directed by the COR.
D. Unauthorized over!excavation shall be backfilled in accordance with the parameters of these specs at no additional cost to the Government.
