QUESTION 1 - The only on site observation that my superintendant made was that on Valyermo Fire Station Blockhouse Bldg No 1031 all sheeting was running in the wrong direction. This would create a weak deck to roof over. There was only 40' of Facia repair noted, and 320 feet of dry rot noted on this building. My question would be is the sheeting acceptable in this fashion or do you wish to re sheet the entire building? He also said there was not enough pitch for shingles.

ANSWER 1 - We addressed the shingles already and also the dry rot with the unit costs. I need to check with my structural guys to see if the direction of the sheeting is significant. He is right but as long as people do not go up there, it is not an issue. We will leave the decking as it is. So no change is required as a result this question.

QUESTION 2 - I just received an e-mail from distribution about the Modified Bitumen specification which stated there was no fire rating on the system specified. Do you want a system with a class A rating? Should I bid one with a rating and qualify it in the proposal.

ANSWER 2 – Answer covered in the Modification 2 of the Modified Bitumen specification which will be posted 15 June 2009/ QUESTION 3 - Can you please let me know if there is good access to these builds as far as loading and demo is concerned. I also need to know the height of building and if it is a 1-story or 2-story.

ANSWER 3 - The buildings are all one story and there is access to each building for loading and unloading roofing materials.

QUESTION 4 - There are no rain gutters and/or downspouts, but the solicitation calls for removal and replacement of gutters and spouts. Please clarify.

ANSWER 4 - If there are no gutters and down spouts, they cannot be removed and replaced. This line applies only where there are gutters and down spouts.

QUESTION 5 - The historical building's chimney cap and spark arrestor are badly deteriorated and need replacing. Should we include this in our bid, or stick to the specs only?

ANSWER 5 - The chimney and spark arrester are part of an historical building. As such, they should remain essentially the same. Where it is necessary to remove part or all of the chimney, the old parts must be reused, but where they are deteriorated, beyond reuse, they should be replaced in kind as practically as possible. My answer to the question would be to tell the contractor to include money in the contract to replace the chimney and spark arrester in kind but be prepared to remove and reuse the old parts. We will determine a course of action during the course of the job depending on the condition of the old parts.
