PART I – THE SCHEDULE
DESCRIPTION/SPECIFICATIONS/STATEMENT OF WORK
INTRODUCTION
Sage-grouse can be sensitive to noise disturbances during breeding. As such, noise monitoring of sage-grouse leks (breeding area of sage-grouse) during the breeding season is required by the 2015 Amendment to the Ashley
NF Plan. To determine the level of man-made noise (anthropogenic) at a lek, the ambient level needs to be measured/determined and anthropogenic noise levels above ambient are then measured.
Definitions:
Ambient - Sometimes called background noise level, reference sound level, or room noise level; the background sound pressure level at a given location, normally specified as a reference level to study a new intrusive sound source.
Anthropogenic – Human-created features including but not limited to paved highways; graded gravel roads; transmission lines; substations; wind turbines; oil and gas wells and associated facilities; geothermal wells and associated facilities;
pipelines; landfills; agricultural conversion; homes; grazing-related facilities and structures; and mines.
Breeding Season – sage-grouse breeding season for this contract is considered March 1 to May 15.
Lek – sage-grouse breeding ground.
ASHLEY SAGE-GROUSE LEK NOISE MONITORING
The ambient level for each group of leks will be measured and determined and noise monitoring will be conducted for each of the 8 leks. A Report of the results will be prepared and submitted to the Ashley NF.
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
1.1.1 Noise Monitoring Specifications:
1. Noise and ambient measurements will follow the attached protocol.
2. Ambient level will be measured/determined for each group of leks. Anthropogenic noise will be filtered out if possible, or a proxy location selected away from anthropogenic disturbances.
3. Equipment with appropriate sensitivity will be used to measure noise levels, which may be as low as 15 dB, or even lower.
4. All noise Monitoring will occur between March 1, 2018 and May 15, 2018.
5. A Noise Monitoring Report will be provided to the Ashley NF within 45 days of completion of monitoring. The
Report shall include at a minimum methods/protocol, type of equipment used, dates and times of monitoring, locations, results of monitoring, explanation of results, summary, and applicable maps and tables.
6. Vehicle travel will be restricted to existing roads.

1.2 LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION
The work is located on the Ashley National Forest. Leks are located in close proximity to roads, but some walking to sites may be required. Leks are located on 3 different areas of the Forest separated by relatively long distances. See the attached maps for locations. Detailed directions can be obtained from the Ashley NF upon field visit.
1.3 PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
