NOTE: The Title on the Schedule of Items, Section B-1, is in error. It should read Buckboard Water Tank Modifications, not Canyon Rim Overlook Wall Construction.

Question: Will faxed or emailed proposals be accepted in addition to mailed and hand delivered?

Answer: Yes. Proposals (Technical Proposals and Cost Proposals) can be faxed, emailed, mailed, or hand delivered. The deadline for submission has been amended to Thur., September 1, at 1:00pm. See prior Amendment.

Question: Is a welding inspector required to view and certify the welds?

Answer: Yes. Per Spec Section 051200.3.5.D FIELD QUALITY CONTROL, WELDED CONNECTIONS: Visually inspect field welds according to AWS D1.1 /D1.1M.

Question: Is overflow pipe to be galvanized and painted?

Answer: Yes. The overflow pipe shall be galvanized and the overflow pipe shall be painted, along with their support hangers, and along with portions of the large diameter riser pipe up the center of the tower; all per Drawings & Specifications.

Question: Do we need to supply engineered as-build drawings for the items we would be installing?

Answer: As-Built Drawings are required, but NOT engineered as-built drawings. Per Section 014100.1.3.D As-Built Drawings shall be provided. However, they only need to be red-lined drawings, using the contract drawings and marking in red-line corrections any changes or deviations from the contract drawings. This can be done in the field with pen or pencil to clearly indicate any changes or deviations from the contract drawings.

Question: The drawings reference scraping, sanding, and painting random spots of coating. Do you want sandblasting or manually scraped and sanded?

Answer: It is the expectation that loose, flaking paint shall be removed prior to painting. If contractor opts for sandblasting that is acceptable. If contractor opts for scraping and sanding that is acceptable. The expectation is that there shall not be loose paint edges that can easily be flaked away with a fingernail and there shall not be any remaining flaking of the existing paint before new paint is applied.

Question: Note 3 on Sheet 7 states that threaded, galvanized steel pipe still needs to be welded; “THE GALVANIZED STEEL PIPE AND JOINTS MAY COME WITH THREADED ENDS. THE PIPES AND JOINTS SHALL BE WELDED TOGETHER. THE JOINTS CAN BE THREADED TOGETHER FIRST, BUT THEN NEED TO BE WELDED AND WATERTIGHT.” Is this really necessary?

Answer: Note 3, Sheet 7 shall be DELETED in its entirety from the contract drawings. It is not necessary to weld after screwing together overflow piping. Threaded, galvanized pipe used as overflow piping does not need to be welded in addition to threaded.

NOTE: Welding of galvanized pipe is a standard practice and acceptable. However, it needs to be noted that it does produce harmful fumes that need to be properly addressed in enclosed areas. This work will be outside in an area known to be quite breezy and windy and there will be sufficient natural ventilation to weld the galvanized steel pipe and galvanized steel support hangers.

NOTE: If the contractor is interested in attaching the 4” overflow pipe to the 22” column leg using an alternate method, we would entertain the idea. The contractor would have to submit a proposal that would need to be approved by the COR. We are comfortable with welding the support hangers and the legs because that is what we have done on past projects. However, there might be an alternate method that is more efficient than welding and the contractor is welcome to propose an alternative.
