PERFORMANCE WORK STATEMENT (PWS)

RESEARCH SUPPORT STAFFING SERVICES

1.0 General

The Rocky Mountain Research Station (RMRS) is one of five regional units that make up the USDA Forest Service Research and Development organization — the most extensive natural resources research organization in the world. The RMRS maintains 14 research locations throughout a 14-state territory encompassing the Great Basin, Southwest, Rocky Mountains and parts of the Great Plains. The Station employs over 400 permanent full-time employees, including more than 100 research scientists. We administer and conduct research on 14 experimental forests, ranges and watersheds while maintaining long-term databases for these areas. We also oversee activities on more than 260 Research Natural Areas and lead ecosystem management and research partnership projects in Arizona, Montana, New Mexico and Nevada. The Rocky Mountain Research Station is evolving from a Station with 30 research work units (including ecosystem management units and national programs) to a comprehensive programmatic structure consisting of eight Science Program areas and several Research, Development and Applications programs. The Science Program Areas: Air, Water and Aquatics Science, Aldo Leopold Research Institute , Fire, Fuels, and Smoke Science, Forests and Woodlands Ecosystems Research, Grassland, Shrubland and Desert Ecosystem Inventory, Monitoring and Analysis Science, Social, Economics and Decision Sciences Wildlife and Terrestrial Ecosystems .
