The following questions and answers are provided for the purposes of clarifying the Statement of Work:

1. What is the alignment of the road patches?

Ans: Nearly all the paving patches are perpendicular to the centerline of the highway. There are, however, a couple that are parallel to the centerline of the road. The dimensions given in the road log are the best indicator of which direction the paving patch is intended. For example, at STA 11+45, it states “Cut out and patch 2‟ x 24‟ x 4.” The work required is a 2 ft. long patch by 24 ft. wide (across the 24 ft. wide road) and 4 „ deep.

The 24‟ width is intended to indicate the width of the 2-12 „ lanes of the road.

2. What is the nature of the materials refrerenced at SPS 105.02(a), Government Provided Sources?

ANS: Sufficient crushed aggregate exists and is available to the Contractor ready for use on this project at the Griffin Stockplie for (1) finishing dugout areas, (2) culvert replacement beddings and backfills, (3) filling perforated pipe drainage locations, and (4) shoulder repairs as required in the road logs. In addition to the stockpile available at Griffin, there exist other stockpiles of crushed aggregate ready for use (chip piles/drain rock) at Mcgovern Quarry and at the Farside Quarry.

Shotrock for the dugout areas must be mined and processed by ripping, digging, and possibly drilling and blasting to produce the required quantities.

Riprap rock from the Farside Quarry must be mined and processed by ripping, digging, and possibly drilling and blasting to produce the required quantities.

For asphalt production, the Contractor will need to bring in a crusher and harvest quarry rock and process to the required specifications for asphalt production.
