Answers to questions asked during site visit.
1. In Section G – there are full grown trees (hybrid poplar) that are within the 6 foot clearing area inside the fence line that have clonal marker stakes identifying them – at least one appears to be a dead head and needs to come down anyway. These would be located along the west side of the fence line –can those trees be taken down as well?
Answer: Yes, these trees can be taken down. It will be required that the contractor notifies the government two weeks in advane before they’re going to harvest live trees so government can get confirmation on their maps of what’s being harvested and collect final research data.
1. Those larger trees including unmarked and marked trees - -can they be felled away from the fence line and cut to small lengths and left there ?
Answer: All the trees and branches must be removed from the research plot area. Trees and branches can either stack outside the research plot area or be removed by the contractor.
1. For the process of cutting the 6 foot swath on each side of the section H fence --- can the existing fence actually be detached and then put back up once the brushing/ cutting has been completed?
Answer: Since the government has have an active research study going and cannot afford to have deer browse resulting from the fence being removed. To leave open and unattended, the government could lose plant material important to the research project. At no time can a section of the fence be left open and untended this includes during work breaks, lunchtime or after work has stopped for the day. When untended a temporary fence shall place to protect the research plot.
1. When we made the walk thru for the Nursery Annex site it was impossible to walk the full length of the north and south sides of the fence because of the depth of water in the lower areas. How should this be reflected on the proposal?
1.
Answer: Government personnel walk that section fence and decided that the fence does not need repaired in the affected area.
