Mendenhall River EWP Project--Geotechnical Investigation Statement of Work
The work shall consist of supplying all equipment, tools, staff, and permits necessary to conduct geotechnical investigation borings in the Meander Way neighborhood along the Mendenhall River in Juneau, Alaska. The work shall be conducted on mutually agreed dates between May 15-June 30, 2017.
A minimum of four borings to 60 feet below ground surface will be conducted at the site in locations selected by NRCS. These locations will be on or near the riverbank if access is available to get onto the bank in the areas selected for boring. Depending on the findings from the initial four borings, NRCS may choose to add up to an additional 6 borings and the depth of the borings may be decreased to any level chosen by NRCS or increased to 100 feet on any or all borings. In addition to selecting the boring sites, NRCS will obtain access permission for each site and will contact the Alaska one-call system to have buried utilities marked. Any and all other permits needed to conduct the work are the responsibility of the contractor.
NRCS will provide geotechnical expert(s) on site to monitor the drilling operations, log the soil borings, collect needed samples, and make decisions on the most useful type of testing for the soil type being encountered in the boring operations. Sampling and testing will be every 2.5 feet for the first 40 feet of each boring and then at 5 foot intervals beyond 40 feet of depth. Sampling and testing will be conducted in accordance with applicable ASTM’s. The contractor must be equipped and prepared for hollow stem auger boring, standard penetration testing, Shelby tube testing, and ability to drill in saturated sands (drilling mud) if those conditions are encountered.
As this testing is to occur in a residential neighborhood, hours of operation will be confined to the time period of 8am-6pm each day. Contractor shall facilitate handling of any runoff of drill water and/or cuttings and shall properly backfill each boring once the testing is completed.
