Questions and Answers
AG-4419-S-10-0736
1. Project consists only on construction of 4 green roofs on top Multipurpose, Sensing, Conference, and
Laboratory addition as marked on page SA-1.
Part I, Section B of the RFP describe in total the scope and services requested.
Project consists on the 4 green roofs as mentioned above and installation of 4 rain water harvesting systems. (water cisterns). The revised set of drawings (8-03-2010) has 18 sheets that cover the scope of work of this project.
2. Products specified (Zinco) are German made. I think they don't qualify because of the Far 52.225-21, and Far 52.225-22. Are they going to be accepted in this project?
The section 52.225-21 in paragraph (b)(4) (ii) justifies the use of non-domestic material if there is no equal or satisfactory quality material.
The only company in the market that will provide a Insurance back warranty for the function of the green roof components is the one specified. This warranty is additional to the warranty provided by the waterproofing company, which also must be Insurance Back.
As stated in the publication from Katrina Charles “How Green is your Roof” the lack of knowledge from green roof manufactures in the behavior of there cross-section has establish a range of 26% to 88% difference in environmental benefits produce. By specifying a product with a track record of more than 20 years will ensure the success of the roof, the lack technical parameter from other companies limited the green roof experiments that will be conducted.
Also when comparing cost of equal technical parameters the cost exceeded the 6% difference established in section 52.225-21 paragraph (4)(B).
3. On page GR-1, note 2, what is the 6" separation levee made of? Metal, plastic, etc... Does it has a filling? Does it has to hold traffic? Please specify material for the shell, and filling.
The separation levee is made out of the same material under the grey silicon cover of the existing roof.
The top coat must be made out of the waterproofing material propose, this are expose areas intended to segregate the sub-drainage areas.
4. Will Filter Fabric run all the way up to top of Aluminum Edging?
Aluminum edging should be place on top of filter fabric, an additional filter fabric strip should be place from top of the edging up to a feet (1’) behind.
5. More information on weir box is needed. Does it exists or does it has to be fabricated? If fabricated, what steel gauge?
The weir box must be fabricated by the contractor; since concrete downspouts of the existing building may vary it was left to the contractor to adjust the geometry of the box based in existing field measurement. The only restriction is the the weir within the box must have an opening of 45 degrees with a geometry of 12” by 10”. Gage of metal must be no higher than 15.
6. No hardware, nor software is specified for temperature, moisture, and water flow sensors. Are they going to be included on project?
Below is a list of equipment specified; contractor is responsible for calibrating each of the sensors and left them working.
Moisture Sensors - Onset S-SMC-M005
Temperature Sensors - Onset TMC50-HD
Data Logger - Hobo U30 Remote Monitoring (Wifi Connection)
Rain Sensors - Onset S-RGA-M002
Level Logger - SDX Water Level Sensor + Desiccant Cartridge
7. On detail B, page GR-1, does the protective boundary has filter fabric underneath (on top of drainage board)?
Yes, as shown in detail B.
8. Are scaled drawings available for us to compute areas?
Emended drawing and specification are available.
9. Need more information on note 2, page GR-3. Where is the back side of the building? Does a structural drawing be submitted specifying type of reinforcement and placement details?
The correct note is number 9, a metal parapet was specified (See detail B, on page GR-3).
10. On page GR-3, edging detail doesn't specify gauge. And in general edging doesn't specify dimensions.
Thickness of edging should be no less than 1/16” (has shown in detail E, page GR-6). But for the false metal parapet thickness should not be less than 1/4”.
11. Soil depth include waterproofing, retention mat, drainage board, and filter fabric?
No, soil depth is refers to elevation measurement of soil starting at the filter sheet.
12. On detail E-GR-6, a 1/8" a cricket foam slope is specified. How it is going to be joined with the 6" levee?
1/8” is the minimum slope permitted, contractor must adjust slope to create interface between all elements.
13. What are the parameters for the light weight protective boundary aggregate?
Bulk Density (dry weight basis) lb/ft
35 - 45
Diameter of particle must be no less than 1” and no me than 2”, with a depth 3”. The only material than can be used are pumice or expanded clay.
